Best Hardware Store Hands Down!
by Alihiss at Citysearch
Unlike the big, overwhelming Home Depots, the staff at Virgil?s is always helpful and knowledgeable about what they are selling. I?ve often gone in with random projects, in search of the ?perfect thing? to complete a job and they will not only spend time to walk through the store with me, but will even use their tools in the back to help me complete the project. They have a great collection of hardware and small pieces that you can conveniently buy just one of if that?s all you need. The prices are reasonable, the selection of merchandise is great and the staff is very friendly. I?ve never had a bad experience. Only bummer is they are not open that late.
- Pros: Friendly and Helpful Staff, Great Selection, Reasonably Priced
- Cons: Only open till 7pm
People who know their stock

In today's world of big box store consumerism, places like Virgil's are throwbacks to an era of small business and people who know what the sell. How often have you walked into a Home Depot, stopped someone in an orange apron, asked for a specific item (needle nose pliers, for example)...and they were able to walk you to the correct place? Well, at Virgil's...not only did the man with the name tag take me to the pliers section...but he proceeded to point out 4 different kinds of needle nose pliers. I have never had a bad experience at Virgil's with customer service. A couple of times they didn't have what I was looking for...but that's only because they were sold out. If you're in Glendale, are tired of the crazy know-nothings at those huge stores...try Virgil's.
Old Fashioned Service and Carries Hard to Find Parts
by karol59 at Citysearch
As an owner of an older home with older fixtures, I absolutely appreciate Virgil's Hardware Store. Unlike the large retail chains such as Home Depot and OSH, Virgil's usually carries hard to find parts and a practical array of hardware tools as well as household cleaining/maintenance items. It's amazing that they are able to carry a well-balanced assortment of DIY parts and tools in such a modest sized store as compared to the larger chains. They are also well-staffed with knowledgeable individuals who will help you quickly find what you are looking for and answer your questions. For the most part, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable although I've also had a few rude and incompetent ones that I've had to deal with. Virgil's tends to be a bit pricey and they are strict on their return policies - but I'm fine with that and am happy to pay a bit more knowing that they are usually well-stocked and have access to knowledgeable professionals. Their hours are convenient and there's plenty of parking.
- Pros: knowledgeable helpful staff and carries hard to find parts
- Cons: none
