Editorial Review for La Cabanita – by Martha Burr
In Short
Popular with locals for both its authentic Mexican cuisine and its giant, frosty margaritas, the three airy dining rooms are regularly bustling with a lively crowd of couples, families, and groups of friends. Huge 'rita glasses hang over the white-tiled bar, while giant murals, Latin American folk art and paintings make a colorful backdrop to the pleasant beat of salsa music. Specialties include pork with green mole, pork chops baked in pasilla sauce, pozole, carne asada and chile rellenos.

My first time at La Cabanita the other night. A friend from out of town and I went on the recommendation of many! Firstly yes, the salsas and chips are absolutely wonderful especially the red one, so smoky, complex and just the right level of heat. The Tamarindo and Jamaica drinks were both overly sweet. The green mole sauce over chunks of tender pork was pretty good but the little stuffed chiles that sounded so great on the menu were really disappointing, the seasoning totally out of balance, There was so much cinnamon in the mixture that it ended up tasting rather like Dentyne gum or christmas pudding... not sure whether to try this place again.
Pros: Salsa and chips

My wife and I have visited La Cabanita twice now. The food is awesome. They have their own sauces that taste like nothing I have ever tried before. Other than the usual wait on a Friday night which is to be expected of a popular place La Cabanita is the best Mexican Food we've had in LA so far.
Pros: The Food
Cons: None so Far
