The Scene – A giant Buddha, ornate, floral rugs and other Far Eastern decor mix with dark woods to give this supper club's roomy, predominantly red and gold interior a rich, refined, albeit random, look. A full-scale, four-star dinner menu and a state-of-the-art sound and light system offer a full night of dinner and dancing. The heavy dose of '70s and '80s favorites attracts a 30- and 40-something audience of party couples, risqué divorcees and retro-music revelers. – – The Draw – "Where music meets the soul" is the Canyon Club's motto, but you would have…
Second bad experience
by Metaljoe at Citysearch
I went to this venue for the first time a couple of years ago and after that, I vowed never to return. Not only were a few people in the crowd rude but when I grabbed security to have them talk to the rude patrons, the bouncer did nothing. So I was left with not only rude and obnoxious patrons, but after the bouncer cowered they were even more assinine to my wife and I. However, I decided to give it another try. This visit was far worse than the last. I made dinner reservations this time and when the band started playing, others kept forcing our seats back, causing us to guard our table space. I ended up elbowing the jerks because this time, no security were there. They wouldn't have done anything, anyway. My biggest complaint was the lack of beer. Every time I ordered a specific type of beer, they "ran out" and I was stuck drinking a few types of beer that I couldn't stand. The food was mediocre at best, small portions and VERY EXPENSIVE. I have no problem paying a premium, but this was awful. And the patrons who didn't have dinner reservations elected our table, for a trash can. Full of empty beer bottles and drink glasses, which the servers seemed to ignore all night long. We kept having to tell people to get out of our seats, all night long. My bill for dinner and drinks at the end of the night, was horrendous. Never again! We'll find another place to enjoy ourselves.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Everything
You know, I think it's actually a pretty good venue!

I've only attended one show at the Canyon Club (UB40!), and based on reviews here and elsewhere, I had very low expectations. Well, my expectations were substantially exceeded in every respect. Admission to the venue was painless. No pat-down, no rifling through purses and pockets (like House of Blues, for example). The box office handled my transaction in seconds, and there was virtually no line. We were seated immediately (we had dinner reservations to get a table for the show) and even though the club had already been open for dinner for nearly an hour, we still were seated at a table with decent sight-lines and close to the bar. The menu was predictably brief and, well, uninspired, but the food came as ordered, hot and was surprisingly tasty (given that food, obviously, is not what you go to a concert club for...). Our waitress was friendly, was good at checking in just enough (you don't want to be interrupted too often, after all) and managed to get all the orders at our table correct (it's community seating if your party isn't large enough to fill a table for 6) and the bill wasn't padded with errors or unordered drinks. While being off stage right wasn't the best for sound (had we arrived earlier, I'm certain we would have had much better seats for sound and sight lines), at least we weren't blown out of our chairs by an excessively loud PA system. The bathrooms were clean, service all evening (for drinks) was very good, all the staff were professional, cheerful and helpful. I have to say that of all the clubs and smaller concert venues I've been to in SoCal, Canyon Club is now one of my favorites. I won't hesitate to come back.
- Pros: Pleasant venue, professional staff, well-run!
- Cons: Could the food be better? Sure. Is it good enough to enjoy? Yup.
Disappointing experience

I have driven by for years seeing the signs for bands I long believed to be dead and gone playing at the Canyon Club but I never stopped in. Now at least I know I have not been missing a thing. I saw some of the reviews on the internet and thought to myself, these sound like the kind of people who complain about everything, bitter people lambasting the venue because of what was probably an insignificant incident they blew out of perportion...nothing could be farther from the truth. The staff realy does come across as rude and inconsiderate. Unless you come for dinner there is no place to sit or even put your drink down for that matter. The staff will shoe you away from the bar, I even had one waitress shove me with her tray (I hate to sound bitter as well but its true!). The acoustics are awfull; the chatter of the patrons in the club was more prominant than the music. I dont mean to say the crowd was generally loud, the acoustics are just not condusive to live music at this venue. The place is in dire need of a good cleaning, it is dark and has not been well maintained over the years. It was truly a disapointing experiance for my girlfirend and I. Luckily we have a sense of humor; we found ourselves laughing at just how bad it was overall and finaly decided to leave after the band began their fourth set. The place is not worth the price of admission unless you DESPERATELY want to see one of the bands playing there but I would reccomend looking on the net to see if they are playing ANYWHERE else first!
- Pros: Bands you didnt even know were alive still play here
- Cons: The service, atmosphere, acoustics and value
