Is the management writing these reviews?!. Let's be clear: this is not a "resort-style club." This is not an "upscale club." This is a decent place to get a decent workout most of the time. And, yes, expect for the unused machines, most do have caked on dried sweat.

The reception area is often clogged with employees who are either:

1.) quick at checking you in without so much as greeting or

2.) hovering about to snatch the next sale of a membership.

So, with the scenarios above, you get the idea that once you area member, they really have no time for you.

When they sell you the membership they WILL tell you that you will NEVER have to wait for a cardio machine. This is true if and ONLY if you only ever want to use the bikes or you go after 7:30pm. Second time I was there, I waited for 15 minutes. Maybe that isn't a long time, but considering what I was told . . . not cool.

Unlike "resort-like" and "upscale" clubs, they is NEVER an employee on the floor. "Upscale" clubs have at least one person on the floor all the time--helping people, replacing weights, enforcing rules, checking functionality of equipment. Way does that matter? Because their contact places ALL liability on YOU and NONE--neither defects nor malfunction nor neglect--goes to them. Oh wait, no. One time a few weeks back, there was a guy looking at the treadmills. A buddy showed him how one was malfunctioning. He shrugged and walked off. No notation on his forms. Nothing. It still doesn't work right as of last week.

Toward the end of the day--you know, when the cardio is available--weights and towels are everywhere. CELLPHONE use is rampant regardless of time of day even though cellphones are against the rules. Machine hogs with towels on 3-4 machines at a time also out number the courteous clients.

By the way, do NOT bother requesting the managers to enforce their own rules. They will make it to seem YOU are the problem. I just watched a guy complain about cellphone use. The manager literally snared at him. Told him the rule was "unenforceable" and no one had ever complained about it before. Really?! Come on.

It is clear the management "team," who allow their petty in-fighting to be overheard, have woefully little experiencing in managing anything. I thought the place needed a General Manager . . .then I found out they do actually have one.

Some tips if you think you need to join:

1.) Don't believe anything they say

2.) Forget about their claim that they are putting $400k into the club. Been there for months now, and there's still no new paint, carpet or machines. The coming soon/under construction sign on the "cafe" is showing wear, so enough already.

3.) Know the contract because they don't. If it isn't in the contract, you don't have it. To them month-to-month really does mean you have 60 days before you can cancel.

4.) The "initiation fee" ($200) is NEVER EVER charged. They give you the bs line that they will waive it this time just for you because you are so special.

5.) Get your "Civil Service" discount! Paid $50 a month rather than $80-120

6.) Month to month costs more, but I'd recommend it until you know that the place is tolerable.

Buyer Beware!. I was happy with this gym, the price was a little high but my job relocated me up to SF for 8 months so I let me contract expire. I recently was able to move back to Woodland Hills and decided to give Spectrum another try; however, they wouldn't even let me try out the facilities to see if things had been kept up or improved, not even for a day...I was shocked and upset. I've spent hundreds of dollars at this gym and there was no loyalty or professionalism. I talked with a manager and he couldn't care less and insisted I sign up or pay $25 for the day. What kind of customer service is this? Old management was way better, seems to be some turnover with staff/management and looks like a group of idiots are running this place now. Went to Club 360 instead. Look elsewhere before signing up to this place!

Top of the line gym!. Ive been a member at Spectrum for almost 2 year now. Spectrum is great in all aspects. Their staff is absolutely amazing. Im always greeted nicely by the front desk. The staff there actually care about how I am and they feel like my second family. The locker rooms are beautiful there with all of the features that I could want: sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, showers (with complimentary shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, lotion, etc), free towel service, a heated indoor pool...not to mention i dont have to worry about forgetting a lock because on almost all the lockers, you can set your own combination and use it for the day for FREE! Their equipment is state of the art. Almost all their cardio machines have TVs with cable on them. They have so many machines and weights and weight machines that you never have to wait in line. They have a stretch room that has room to do anything in it. Their classes are great there! Ive tried the bellydancing, cardio kickbox, CYCLE (BEST cycle classes and instructors there) and yoga classes and they are all great! Their kids club is so great there. Ive brought my daughter there since she was 6 months old and now shes grown up knowing all of their staff and is completely comfortable there. They are all very aware of the kids and ive seen the way they've made newcomming children comfortable. In all, spectrum is AMAZING and totally worth every cent!

good investment. Spectrum Club Canoga Park is overall a really good gym. Their front desk staff is really friendly and are always ready to help when i have questions. They have lots of equipment and i never have to wait for any machines i want to use. One thing i really love is all the classes they offer. There is such a wide variety and the instructors keep me really motivated. I have been in other gyms and this place outshines them all and is really worth the money

good fitness club. plenty of cardiovascular equipment--I have never waited for a treadmill

plenty of weights--I did work in on a bench press with another guy, but it was great, we actually work out together now

classes--my wife takes classes and says they are good

pool, basketball and racquetball--nice to have but I don't use that much

kids center--my kids are too old

parking--no problem

price--more than 24 hour fitness, but you get towels and soap in the showers

If you like to exercise, you should definately check it out, it's worth it

Very Dirty Ripoff. Spectrum Palisades is grouse. They sell it like a "Resort Style," atmosphere, and it couldn't be further from the reality. The equipment never gets cleaned, there is dried sweat everywhere. The Steam....when it works burns your eyeballs after 2 minutes. The Showers have slimy floors with drains filled with hair and trash, even the ceiling is falling. It's Disgusting!!!!
