Tips for Mimi's Cafe

June 21, 2008

Atmosphere rules at this French New Orleans-themed spot that serves traditional American fare.. In Short
Decorated like a French country bistro with jazzy New Orleans overtones, Mimi's Café was named after a lost love of Arthur Simms, who started the restaurant in 1978 in Anaheim, Calif., with his family. The ambience could only be upstaged by the menu filled with traditional American favorites. Breakfast includes omelets, waffles, muffins and fresh-squeezed juices, while lunch and dinner feature comfort-food classics like pot pie and pot roast, deli-style sandwiches, burgers, pastas, steaks and salads.

Slow, rude, and dirty. Two of my friends and I were out looking for a place that was open. (I think we were out on Xmas day, but it could've been Xmas eve.) Well, this was my first time there so I wanted to check out the menu first. I walked up to the host that was busy writing something. I stood in front of him for about 30 seconds and he didn't even look up to acknowledge me, so I went past him to grab the menu for myself.

When my friends and I finally decided to eat there, he told us in an impolite way that "of course you are because there isn't anywhere else that is open." That's when the horrible experience started. Our waitress took forever to come to our table and equally as long to just bring us our drinks. I understand that they were almost full but they were not shorthanded. I ordered a glass of wine and it had an apparent red lipstick stain on it. I received a clean glass the second time, but I can't confirm if the wine was re-poured or not.

There's more dirt to this place. I mean that literally because all the glassware for our waters/sodas were dirty with dozens of fingerprints. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until at the end of the meal because I didn't ask for my water until then. I had a good look at my glass because one of the helper waitresses didn't give me a straw. She was too busy running to her boyfriend who was sitting in the back. She was like this the entire night. The food wasn't very good either. I had ribs and ate it all because I was really hungry after all the waiting. I barely touched my sider orders of mashed potatoes and vegetables. If I were to only rate the food, I would give them a 5/10.

The table behind us had an even harder time getting their food. They only came in about 10 mins after us, but every time they decided on what to order, the waitress would tell him that the kitchen is out of it. This happened several times and the couple had to wait about 5-10 mins each time. I felt sorry for them.

One of the worst. Mimi?s is one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. I went back there 3 other times because I couldn?t believe that it was so bad. One time it was a bad waitress, but the next 3 times it was bad food. I have never gotten sick there, but the food is bland and boring. However, it looks very nice. One good thing is they have free fruit-punch while you wait. This was probably the best thing about Mimi?s. The next best thing was their muffins. They were actually pretty good.
