Foster's Freeze

In Short – Often described as California's first fast-food chain, Fosters Freeze has been a Golden State tradition since 1946. That was when George Foster opened his first eponymous eatery on La Brea Avenue in Inglewood and introduced the soft serve cone. The sweet, swirly concoction became so popular that he opened a chain of restaurants. Since then, the menu has grown to include other soft serve treats--parfaits, banana splits and Twisters--as well as made-to-order hamburgers, fries, chicken sandwiches and fish filet.

Fun Fact:: The restaurant's name stems from its popular soft-serve milkshakes and ice cream while its logo is a smiling ice cream cone with a chef's hat.
On the Menu:: The Old Fashion is the chain's signature burger--a ground beef patty smothered in Thousand Island dressing with lettuce and tomato packed between two buns. For bigger appetites, there's The Big Boss, which adds crispy onion rings, two slices of cheese and bacon to the mix.
