very helpful staff, good business sense, really nice dessert wine, lame pretty, horrible customer service
Great Wine Store. I was turned on to this place by a co-worker -- it's great. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable and the selection of wine and liquor is impressive.
Horrible Customer Service. I was looking for a really nice dessert wine as a gift for my Dad and I went to this shop really wanting to love it, but will never again return. The customer service was horrible. I had to wait for quite a while before getting assistance. When I finally tracked down a sales person, they acted as if I was really putting them out. Unless you go in there buying several cases of wine, they are very snooty and will treat you like garbage while they serve those buying more. Pretty lame because I do marketing for a caterer, who ALWAYS buys several cases of quality wine, but we now bring our business elsewhere. They should always treat all customers with respect, even those buying one bottle because it's just good business sense. I'll never deal with them again.
Family-owned shop offers rare vintages, great bargains and in-store tastings..
The Scene
The spacious white-walled expanse is tastefully decorated with framed wine labels and detailed maps of European wine-producing regions. Valley-dwelling patrons run the gamut from wine connoisseurs to curious beginners. The challenge is finding the right employee for assistance--some clerks are happy to share info and advice, while others are not.
The Goods
In the late '70s, owner Paul Smith was at the forefront of the Napa Valley cabernet movement. These days, he's earning raves for his Burgundy selection. Wines are separated by region and then broken down further by varietal. Rare vintages are stocked and special ordering is available. Most items are priced fairly, but don't expect Costco-like discounts. Check out "bargain alley" by the back door for specials on inexpensive bottles. Non-oenophiles will appreciate racks of fine liquor and beers from around the world. Accessories like glasses, corkscrews and carrying bags are also for sale.
