Wonderful, great atmosphere and historic vibe

by colette27

I'm dying from laughter-- pay no attention to "gofins." Wood floors? Rats? How ignorant do you have to be?

For one, ice rinks do not have wood floors under their surfaces-- that's absolutely ridiculous. There are no broken windows, and even if there is a "broken window in the back"-- the entire back is FENCED OFF from the back street.

And where are these imaginary r@ts and why has Iceland been around FIFTY years without any sort of health establishment shutting them down? Yeah, r@ts sure do explain the "A" health grade hanging in the Ice Age Cafe.

By the way, cash receipts are not required-- what does the IRS have to do with that? I've requested one once and they were happy to write one out, but what's the point when you get your admission sticker as proof.

Honestly, bitter and misinformed people are laughable. Take it from a regular, this place is no immaculate architectural masterpiece, but it is homey, family-oriented, safe, warm, and accommodating, and that's all a paying customer needs.

Dirty, disgusting & run down

by gofins

The ice itself: The wood floors are exposed because the ice is so thin, the ice itself is always under some kind of repair, the window in the back of the rink is broken with a plastic cover over it. It is one of the smallest rinks I have ever been to. Not well kept up at all. Next the viewing area if you like r@ts yes I said r@ts this is the place to be; they roam around where you are sitting near the Iceland Cafe (nice); the seating in uncomfortable and you have to beg the owner to turn on the cheap heaters, the glass i never cleaned so it is hard to see your skater enjoy their time oh and the reasons the r@ts like the place so well is because it is like a maze to get through it no signs to lead you anywhere. Lets now move on to the bathrooms DISGUSTING!!!!! You are requested to not put anything in the toilet (YUCK!!!!), no ventalation and poop smell.

Couldn't tell you about the food because I won't eat in places that welcome wild rats. Lastly the customer service the one owner and his son are so rude it is obvious the only care about 1 thing and that is you money coming out of their pocket, I have never felt so unwelcome in a place of business in my life Rude is putting it mildly. Oh and it you pay cash you don't get a receipt (huh I wonder if the IRS would be interested in that?) My suggestion find a better rink to go to it is not as if you will pay more since their small rink is the same admission as larger rinks in the ares.

  • Pros: The coaches are friendly

Awesome, don't let the interior fool you

by Luxforsoul

I hate to be so old-school at heart but I can no longer deny my love for the vintage! Iceland is everything an ice rink should be-- homey, family-oriented, and a true hidden gem. If you can take a second to get past the outer appearance & get your nose out of the air, it's tons of fun.

A fellow reviewer made a comment about the ice being so thin the "wood shows through," and I'd just like to add that this would be a quite impossible feat, considering there is nothing but steel pipes under the ice. As a regular patron and a parent to one of the students enrolled in classes, I can also assure you, there are no rats, the food is good (It's just a snack bar-- it's fine), and as for the bathrooms...

The ladies restroom is nice, it's small-ish but at least it's not a single restroom like others have, and yes it smells but we can hardly blame the establishment itself for that. Especially considering the fact that YES, this is a kid's place, children generally have pretty terrible hygiene and occasionally "forget" to flush. We all know this much.

Also, I don't know what this is about the owner being rude. He is the sweetest man ever! He donates the bumper cars to our school's PTA events every year FOR FREE, this would usually be a 2,000$ ordeal, and he's the one losing money with the employees he's paying to man the ride.

And as someone whose child is a part of the Kids Sports Foundation here (it's a nonprofit you go through for discounted lessons), I can assure you, a man that starts a nonprofit organization to help low-income families, is anything but rude or any sort of pejorative.

  • Pros: Quality service, best prices, and FUNNNN
  • Cons: Size, Interior
