Love this place!. I've been coming here for years, particularly for lunch and I can't say enough good things about it. I love the always fresh sushi, the amazing special rolls (check out the Red Dragon Roll), the beef teriyaki, the iced tea, the green mussels. I come at least 3-4 times a week and bring all my friends. The atmosphere is serene and pleasant, nice music, lovely, attentive service (Jennifer is the queen of service) and the price, though not the cheapest is town, is totally reasonable for the quality. Easy to get to, lots of free parking - it is my home away from home.

Happy Hour!. If I could do 3 1/2 I would. Is it the "BEST SUSHI AROUND" ... no. However it's tasty, fresh and priced well. They have a Happy Hour from 5 - 7 daily where some menu items are 50% off. There's ample free parking and it's in walking distance to Ventura Boulevard's shops and cafes. If you live nearby I suggest stopping by during their Happy Hour for a solid meal that wont break the bank.

Great for lunch!. I've been going to Genmai for about 2 years now, and I love it! I'm a big fan fo sushi and Japanese food in general, and this place ranks as one of my favorites. I go there at least once a week for lunch because it is such a great value. Try the Lunch Box Specials, and get a $17 meal at dinnertime for $7 at lunch, complete with miso soup, salad, white rice tempura, grilled salmon or chicken, and a california roll! The staff is great, and service is excellent. My only complaint, which is minor, is that the decor is very 80's...they should go with a more traditional Japanese design.

The best I've had. Genmai was highly recommended to me by a lifelong sushi lover! Though I am a relatively new connoisseur of sushi, Genmai's flavorful rolls have knocked my socks off. The delux Dragon Roll with eel, avacodo, and a warm sauce is a house specialty. Other rolls and traditional sushi have been outstanding and having the option of brown rice is refreshing. For me there is only one place for sushi in LA, Genmai.

Best Sushi Around!. The Best Sushi Bar Around! Between the service and the food, it doesn't get much better then Genmai!

Vegetarian Friendly sushi. This place is all about healthy eating, including the name (genmai translates to brown rice). Along with fish and chicken dishes, and fresh sushi, there are specially prepared dishes for macrobiotic and vegan diets. Many of the sauces and desserts are sweetened without sugar, too. But don't let the healthy slant scare you, the food is fresh and delicious.
