They're Born To Roast Chickens. If you're in the mood for seriously cheap eats that include some of the best rotisserie chicken and hummus in LA then head over to Zankou. I have no idea what they do to their chickens but they're always tender, juicy and wonderful. Let's not get into my feelings about the garlic sauce that they serve on the side (always ask for more) - because it borders on true love. The only thing that's lacking IMO is a better selection of sides; but it doesn't stop us from eating here a few times a month, even my super picky 8 year old loves the place (and the garlic sauce). I think the urge to lick your fingers while eating this stuff is almost overwhelming.

Some people have complained about the semi-rude service they get @ Zankou, but I think it's just part of the experience - they're always packed - and they're always trying to get people out the door.

Probably not good for date night; but is great take out on the way because if the super fast in and out of the place.

Great garlic chicken and shawerma. My first trip to Zankou wasn't a success -- the hummus tasted like mashed potatoes and the chicken was a bit dry. But the second time I went, the food was excellent. Juicy chicken that drips off the bone, beef shawerma that is lean and incredibly tasty, wonderful garlic sauce and even the hummus was good. This has definitely made the top of my lists for fast, cheap, good food.

Armenian roasted chicken that's finger-licking good.. The Scene
Zankou Chicken isn't much to look at: a narrow slice in an unremarkable strip mall. But the glowing critical accolades Zankou has garnered--blown up, framed and proudly displayed--foreshadow fabulous fare that will quickly make you forget the orange Formica and faux-wood paneled ambiance.

The Food
Spit-roasted chicken attracts most of the attention, and deservedly so. Tender, moist and permeated with flavor, it's rotisserie roasted to crisp perfection. But the rest of the menu easily meets or beats the bird. Soujouk is an Armenian beef sausage that takes the term spicy to new heights--not simply hot, it's a marvelous melange of fiery flavors combined with subtler nuances. Then there are the sides--tabbouleh, hummus, zippy stuffed grape leaves and a divinely addictive mutabbal (baba ghanouj).

mmm garlic. The garlic sauce is addicting. The chicken can

be a little dry but the wrap is still very good.

Beck even mentions this place in one of his songs.

Slightly dissappointed. The garlic sauce was more bitter than I remember 10 years ago, but it was very good with the delicious Armenian bread (pita). The chicken that I got was not juicy. The chicken I buy from Cosco is bigger, juicier, and cheaper. The falafel plate was like $8, a little more than I was expecting but it was pretty good. Service was pretty fast.

Surprisingly GREAT food!!!. I had my reservations about this restaurant because of where it was located, but once inside it was nice, clean place with a friendly staff. The food was amazing! The roasted chicken is so juicy and the Tri-Tip Shawerma was sooo tasty. It is a lot of food, you could even share a plate with a friend. The pita bread they serve with the hummus is soft and warm. I really love this place, so don't let the exterior scare you off.

So good. Had lunch here today and it was great. I was disappointed by the bad service...I ordered a small pepsi and got a medium diet, and the cashier wasn't friendly at all. Food on the other hand was quite good. I'd go back just for that. The dishes are rich, so a little goes a long way.

Great Food. This is not the type of place that you go to for the ambiance but the food is EXCELLENT!!! It is usually busy but the service is quick. I definitely reccommend Zankou.
