Tailored but never trendy, this affordable chain has been keeping the closets of career gals and housewives stocked with good-quality, basic wardrobe-builders, shoes and accessories since 1954. Diligent shoppers can unearth some seasonal options with more of an edge too: suede wrap skirts, retro-print separates or clingy little black dresses. Forever Stylish. Enduring style for the person with the money to spend. Nods to fashion, not trends, each season, providing clothing that integrates with the previous season's classic style.

Good for the office. Not everyone in L.A. is a would be actress or publicist. Some women actually work in conservative offices. Even though I prefer the Ann Taylor Loft, I find that Ann Taylor is good if you need to look "professional" in a conservative setting.
