good game, not good service, best staff, favorite records, good gear
Give This Place A Second Chance. This shop has changed hands, the original owner was not a friendly person. The new owner is from Russia and English is his second language, so sometimes people think he is a little dry, but he is a good guy unless you act like a jerk, then you will get both barrels. They have had a number of different people doing amp repairs, the current guy knows what he is doing, I hope they hang on to him. Tina, who does the guitar repairs, is the real deal and has a great reputation. This is also a great place to take guitar lessons.
Where You Need to Go If your Serious. I consider musicians in roughly two categories, regardless of professional or amateur; the cheap guys and the guys that want real quality and service. If you want cheap, go to the Guitar Center. Otherwise, the Amp Shop is your place. Service, repairs and gear are all top quality. I bought my favorite custom 5 string fretless bass there and had my classic 75 Fender P bass meticulously worked on there. The Guitar Center didn’t have any fretless bases, let alone a 5 string version and I wouldn’t let them touch my $25 souvenir ukulele. The Amp shop is the only place I'll go. I've played with musicians that would write these negative reviews. Now I choose not to play with these annoying, snot-nosed whiners. Keep up the great work guys.
THE CROOK SHOP.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR GEAR TO GET REPAIRED HERE!
Each time I got back my Fender Twin Reverb it sounded worse and worse. The owner told me that the crackling and the high-pitched squeal it was making after their "repairs" was how classic amps are supposed to sound. He then yelled at me in front of a shop full of customers accusing me of lying that my amp didn't sound like that before I brought it in. I took my amp to another tech who told me that they didn't do the repairs I had asked for (replace the filter caps).
THE AMP SHOP = THE CROOK SHOP
THEY TOOK ME FOR A LOT OF MONEY!
AVOID this place like THE PLAGUE!!!.
PLEASE READ THIS!!!
If you are thinking about going to this place to buy something or repair your amp, then . . .
PLEASE THINK AGAIN!!!
The guy that manages the place is like a combination of Hitler, and Charles Manson. I'm not trying to be humorous!
They are extremely rude, totally incompetent, and very very very expensive.
They will say anything to get your money, and then do nothing to back it up. Sure, they talk a good game, but watch what happens after they have your money. You will regret doing business at the AMP SHOP in Van Nuys. Go anywhere else but here.
And you have to park a mile away to even get to the place.
I have never in my life seen a more horribly run business. Avoid this place like the plague! You won't get a good deal, and you won't get good service. This is my personal opinion.
There are several other places in LA to get the same product much cheaper, and get repairs done for less, with a faster turnover. This place is the pits, and if you go there after reading this, then I suspect that you'll be writing a review just like this, soon after!!
BE FOREWARNED!!!!!
Pros: There are no PROS! NONE!! Horrific service! No parking! High high prices!
Cons: I have not one positive thing to say! Cons: Yes, they appear to be!!
