Inexpensive Furnishing – I agree with the other reviewers that you have to be careful what you buy there. Some of the stuff is not that sturdy but it is usually obvious when you look at it that it is not made to last. A bought a couple of dressers and they lasted about 7 years.
Not if you'd like it to last – I'm looking for "real" furniture. I hadn't been to Ikea in a while, but it's close so I checked it out. My three boys would destroy that stuff. They do have nice accent pieces that change frequently. I didn't have any luck finding the picture frames that I was looking for. I guess I was expecting more because their pictures are so well done.
Hell for a cheap couch – After a long roundtrip trek to IKEA in Friday afternoon traffic we unpacked a couch that had been so damaged by a forklift it was shocking that they took the time to pack it up again (and obscure the damage with the packing). Drove all the way back in Friday late afternoon traffic and was told they would pull one of the 14 couches in stock.
We were then told that they in fact did not have 14 couches, they had one and they couldn't get to it while customers were in the store. No forklifts allowed while people are around. Ever been to Costco? Then they made the gratuitous suggestion that we go to dinner and come back at 9:30 to pick up the couch. I suggested that they buy us dinner, like real customer service and instead they gave us $20 for gas. I gave them their $20 back. Its just too insulting.
I asked John if I could speak to his manager and he made a call. A woman shows up, puts on a tough act and then it turned out she was his underling.
So when we agreed on the delivery time for the replacement couch we were very very clear that they would have to use a small truck since we live in the hills with narrow streets and we have an even more narrow driveway. They assured us that this would not be a problem. Sure enough this morning I heard an 18 wheeler in the distance trying to navigate our hills. The poor delivery people had to walk the replacement couch all the way to us on foot.
This ridiculous odyssey could have been avoided had someone not obscured forklift damage of a cheapie couch.
Ikea Thumbs up... – Ikea makes everything well. It functions and does what it claims. Sure they make you see everything by meandering around the maze floorplan, but guess what... I like that part. So many things to look at. I will be back. Again... several times.
The place to EAT – I am really into Ikea's CAFETERIA right now. It is super cheap, perfect place to go with kids, great for a cheap dinner before a movie at Burbank amc, a nice cheap date place. All around a place worth eating at. Consider it the next time you're in Burbank (I've never been to any other Ikea store) and you want to have a $5 dinner - do Ikea. Unlike anything else in the store you won't get lost going to the cafeteria. <p> Everything else in the store is a labrynth of east asian slave labor. But if you're in a fix and they don't have the particle board contraption you're looking for at goodwill, Ikea is a reasonably priced option.
Low prices and sleek, modern design draw shoppers to this interior decorating superstore. – In Short
Hopen, Malm, Aneboda-no, those are not suggestions to name your pet, but the Swedish names of IKEA's designer furnishings and decorative odds and ends. Created with a "one-way" layout in mind, shoppers weave through a labyrinth of seemingly endless showrooms stocked with equipment to creatively accessorize every room under the sun. With patrons ranging from groups of freshmen students looking to outfit their tiny dorms to entire families, the store offers a huge repertory of styles, patterns and colors for every unique taste. And speaking of tastes, the small restaurant just beyond the cashiers serves up traditional Swedish fare for those who worked up an appetite.
OMG, let me out! – Ikea has it's place, and I know all Ikea stores have the same general feel, but I'm down on Ikea as a store. The idea itself is great -- furniture you can carry home, assemble, and looks good. Just bothers me how much pain you have to go through to get to what you're looking for, then once you find it, how much pain you have to go through to get it, after you go through the hamster's maze to get to the checkout. I prefer a store where I can go directly to the area I'm looking for, put it in the cart, then go straight out the door passing checkout on the way.
Ikea...great product, bummer of an experience.
:) – If you keep your receipt and a peice breaks they will replace it.
Keep your receipt.
The food is pretty good too
Funnnn – Who doesn't like Ikea, with all its sprawling open floors of sleek furniture and things? I remember as kid going to Ikea and hanging out in the babysitting room. There was an NES, but all I wanted was to roam the rows of desks and chairs with funny names. I love Ikea, though sometimes assembly directions read like coloring books.
A Fun Place To Browse/Shop – I go to Ikea a couple of times a year when I'm in a decorating mood. Sometimes I browse the showrooms for ideas; sometimes I heard straight downstairs to the shopping area. Items are fun, unique, and priced nicely.
My only complaint about Ikea, and it's a big one, is that you can't bring shopping carts to the parking area. Given the selection of merchandise, it's hard NOT to buy more than you can carry. If you go with someone you can have them watch over the goods while you bring your car to the loading area, but if you shop alone you could be in trouble.
I would think the store would benefit from some kind of system that allows people the freedom to shop for everything they can get their hands on AND make it convenient to get it to their cars.
