Tons of Stuff, knowledgable staff

I was put off by some of the negative reviews about this place but I decided to give them a shot after being referred to them by a guy at Glendale Cyclery. I figured if they've got the respect of the cycling community AND their competitors, Bicycle John's seemed like a safe bet. I first called them on the phone with my questions. I never felt like I was being rushed off the phone and I really got the impression that the guy who helped me was taking a genuine interests in my questions. Because of that, I visited the store in Burbank. I was taken aback when I walked in at their extensive selection of complete bikes (I later learned that BJ's is not married to any brand and that is why they're able to carry such a wide variety of bicycles.) as well as replacement parts and upgrades. The staff was quick to help me and spent a good deal of time explaining to me what my options were (I was shopping for pedals). Moreover, they gave me a good deal on my pedals...I can't speak to the experiences others have had there, but my shopping experience was nothing short of the best. I highly recommend it.
- Pros: Great selection, Knowlegeable un-pushy sales staff,
- Cons: none that i noticed.
Intimidating and unfriendly

This place is near work so sometimes I'm forced to go there for an emergency part, but I don't enjoy it. Maybe I need to be a professional road racer to get good service, not sure. That's the impression I got anyway. I'm a daily bicycle commuter and anytime I have a question or I'm not sure of something I feel attitude here. I'm sorry that I don't know everything there is to know about bicycles and I don't wear spandex.
Go to Hollywood Pro Bicycles. GREAT attitude from day one with these guys. Been going there for the last couple of months and have positive experience every time. Plus their prices are fair. I get plenty of attitude on the streets. I don't need in in my local bike shop, thanks.
- Pros: They have bicycle parts
- Cons: Everything else
Great Place for Cyclists

I've been cycling for over two years now and this is by far the best place I have found for repairs outside of going to the West side. They can get busy, so call ahead to see if they can look at your bike. I brought my bike in before riding the AIDS Lifecycle, 566 miles from SF to LA, and they were great.
I really appreciated that I came in to change my seat (possible purcahse of $55 -$125) and John told me I didn't need to make the change. I appreciate honesty and they have my loyalty from here on out.
The clothing choices are not vast, but they are the only place I found women's arm and leg warmers in LA.
