Good eats / hot seats. went here w/ my work-lunch partner-in-crime a few weeks ago & thought it was awesome. The staff had a cheery attitude, even in the saunaesque conditions in there & they really do serve up a mean bowl of chili.

We wrote a giant review, complete w/ a bunch of pics, on our totally amateur lets-kill-some-time-at-work blog. Check it out here if you're so inclined: www./burbankbites.blogspot. com/

Spicy and Gooooood. The oldest restaurant in Burbank, this U-shaped trove of chili pleasure is quite a find. When I worked in Burbank I was there every Tuesday. If you like chili and you haven't experienced it yet, go for it.

It is the best chili in L.A.!. It is sensational! I have a friend from Idaho who always makes a visit to have their chili when he is in the area. He even orders chili makings via express mail so he can enjoy it between visits. It is true the price is a bit steep but it is so good that it is worth the price. Besides chili I always get one of their special hot dogs, with the seasoning added to the meat. Don't forget dessert--the pies are very tasty.

Chili Johns Learning Experience. DO......NOT............DO IT! There is a perfectly good reason for the name JOHN in the title.....because that is either where this concoction came out of or where you will be spending the remainder of your afternoon all while being so P.O.'d at yourself for the amount of money spent on this nonsense. We got lunch for 4 people.....that's 4 bowls of chili and an ungodly amount of oysters crackers and......IT WAS $48.00 BUCKS!!!!! FOURTY EIGHT!!!

Unbelievable......never.....ever. ever. ever .ever again.

My favorite chili place. Even though Chili John's is closed during the summer, I have been going here for almost 20 years. Gene is a hoot! Love the small diner atmosphere and the chili is by far the best I've ever had! That's why I keep coming back. And as far as this place staying in business, some lunchtimes I've seen 10 to 15 people waiting for a seat at the counter! And if you really want to taste their chile during the summer time, Gene will set you up just call ahead and he will have the fixings ready for you.

Best chili ever. I love Chili John's... The best chili in the valley. They are closed most of the time in the summer as it is a family run business who closes in the summer time. I have been to may different chili places and nothing is quite the same..... Love the atmosphere and food and it is not over priced. A great place to eat at....

The best chili in SOCAL. From a first timer, former Sooner and much time in Texas, this is the real deal. the staff was charming and welcomed the "newcomer". The chili is awessome. Unfortunately no room or time for pie! Definitely next time.

Real Chili & No Fluff. Some reviewers just don't seem to get it. Do you have any idea how old this place is, or its history? Their own oyster crackers are said to have inspired Nabisco to market them. The logo copyright is older than... The Burbank location is the oldest restaurant in the town.

Only a lightweight or novice would compare Tommy's or any good hot dog sauce to real chili. Yes, CJ's has hot dogs and the right sauce for those too, but it's really about the politically incorrect and oh-so-real chili here. Jumbo Judy and RJ Rev are both right about the menu choices, in fact. And so are Trip Advisor and Chris R about other facts.

Chili John makes only one chili, and it's hot. If you want it milder, add some of their fantastic signature pink beans. Still too hot? More beans. And please don't stir them. A little beans, chili oil (and other condiments, if you like) should complement the chili on your spoon, not be whirled into it.

Now if they'd just put up a website like the original in Wisconsin, so we can order the grub from out of town. I had the pleasure of getting my regular Chili John's fix for over twenty years while in LA throughout the 80s and 90s, and it will never be enough.

Open for business? When?. Have lived in Burbank most of my life. Have driven by Chili John's many many times. It's a wonder how this restaurant stays in business. Most of the time I go by, it's closed contrary to the posted hours. Not to mention all the many times there is a large white sign on an easel inside the glass front door that reads "GONE FISHING". I agree with one of the other reviews about the few customers that are inside when they are open. Even though I've heard poor reviews about this place from friends and aquaintances that have eaten here, I would some day like to try their chili, then maybe I can give this place a better rating. Maybe the next time I go by there sporting an appetite, and they're open, I'll check it out.

Super-fattening indulgence with so-so service.. Chili John's is a place you go to when you want to go all out with a chili feast -- it is fatty, salty, ladeled on top of a carb-loaded pile of spahgetti and topped with cheddar and more (optional). It is very, very good and the pies are absolutely wonderful.

Unfortunately, one more than one occassion I have been irritated by the loud-mouth people who work behind the counter and act like you've stepped into their social hour to eat. They are not very funny and discuss private business matters and gripes in front of customers -- which I consider highly obnoxious. It has caused me not to go back. But, you can get the chili to go which I recommend.
