Editorial Review for Tallyrand Restaurant – by Tara de Lis
In Short
A staple in the community since 1959, one look at this down-home greasy spoon, and it feels less Burbank and more Big Rapids. Children's Crayola drawings line the entryway, leading to vinyl booths with floral-patterned backs, potpourri-like wreaths above them, and a light-up table number board in the counter area. Outside, there's a small patio with green umbrellas. The menu encompasses all the usual American favorites, but the main draw is the turkey dinner, roasted daily.

I have been eating here since the early 60;s. To keep things short and sweet, the quality of the food served here is always consistant and properly cooked. They probably cook their eggs better than any of the other coffee shops in town. Yes this is a big deal with me, and they do it right. I read the other reviews before writing my own and I just can't believe some of the stupid reasons that people make bad judgements against this establishment like when they decided to close a bit early because their business happens to be really slow. Maybe people shouldn't wait until the last minute to go out and eat. Why would you take your family out to dinner that late anyway? About the only two things I feel somewhat negative about are, their menu selection is somewhat limited and their prices on some meals are a bit pricey for what you get. $12 for a turkey dinner is a bit steep considering there probably wasn't more than a couple of tablespoons worth of stuffing under the turkey slices and their steak dinner is as expensive as a fancy steak house. But, their breakfasts are probably about the best in town. You can't really go wrong but a revamped menu would be nice for a change. The warm sourdough bread and/or their muffins are always a plus!
Pros: consistantly good food, friendly staff with good service
Cons: somewhat pricey, small menu

One of the best diners I've found in all of LA. Great breakfasts (particulary love the chilli hash), and great fresh-roasted turkey (either as a dinner or open-faced turkey sandwich). Drove past it for years, but once I went in have conistently come back again and again every couple weeks.
