fun place, good service, best saltenas, horribly bad karaoke, decent menu, good food, extremely nice waitress
The Friday-Night Spot!. I was invited to this restaurant by a friend and after reading the review on this site, I was very much discouraged to accept. After much insistance, I went along with my friend, but was very skeptical. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a waitress who led us to a table by the dance floor. It was almost fully booked, but I guess that could be considered normal for a friday night. I hesitated to order, but finally decided to give the place a chance. I ordered some Cheese and Jalape?o Pupusas and my friend ordered Shrimp. Shortly after, a Live Band began to play different kinds of music and the crowd was dancing the night away. I honestly expected the worst. However, the waitress was extremely nice to us and even packed away our leftovers. We decided to stay a bit and have some drinks. We began asking about the drinks and were soon approached by, I believe, the owner of the restaurant. He explained to us about his wines and mixed drinks and such. He was a really nice guy. Overall, we had a nice time and received unexpected personal attention. I definitely suggest you see this place for yourself.
Bad Food, Horrible Karoke, but Stiff Drinks..
The place seemed conspicuously empty on the night we were there. The seats were sticky, and the whole place had an air of being downtrodden and un-maintained.
Horribly bad Karaoke was sung by what seemed like one of the Proprietors, and another patron who entered alone after our party arrived. He favored sad Spanish ballads, but wasn?t too keen on getting the words right, or hitting notes. It was un-festive to say the least.
I wish the food had redeemed the occasion, sadly, that was not the case. My Chicken Empanada tasted as though it was filled with Chicken Picata from my Junior High Cafeteria- the kind of place where the servers wear gloves and hairnets, and serve food with ice cream scoops. The steak I ordered was overcooked to the point of boot leather, and most of us noticed a distinct ?soapy? aftertaste to all of the food.
The drinks were quite stiff, and I imagine on a more populous night that the place could be fun- just avoid the food!
superbly yummy. Not just Argentinian, but Bolivian, the best Saltenas and Pukkas in LA. Superb quinoa soup... food all round good... Great to watch South American soccer games over a beer, can be noisy!, also a deliciously retro dancefloor for parties. Service v.good.
