North Hollywood gay club hosts country- and Latin-theme nights..
The Scene
Rawhide has served the Valley's gay clientele since the 1970s, and is known for its friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. Less flashy than nearby country-western counterpart Oil Can Harry's, the club provides a more subdued night of line dancing and two-stepping. Wooden beams and high ceilings lend to a spacious feel not unlike an old-fashioned barn, complete with bales of hay to perch on while watching the festivities.
The Draw
A small group of regulars patronizes country-themed nights, while the weekend Ole Ole! parties get more crowded with a diverse array of Latin-music enthusiasts. The crowd is receptive to newcomers, particularly on country-western nights, when the outgoing bartenders practically insist people partake in line-dancing lessons. Intermittent Tuesdays and Wednesdays also attract the local L.A. and A.P.A. pool leagues.
