good food, rude staff, favorite neighborhood breakfast spots, great baked goods, great salads, rude waitstsaff, great moderate prices
Wait staff very friendly. Don't know why people think the waitstsaff is rude. We found them most pleasant and accommodating. Food was good; prices right. In all a lovely lunch. Will definitely go back.
Unprofessional environment.
I felt the need to put this out here...anyone who is thinking of going or has been to the restaurant Chez Nous in Toluca Lake should also know that the owner (Tara) treats her employees horribly. We witnessed her hollering at an employee and eventually gave her a little push while telling her to "just go", "get out of here". She also called her a "stupid little girl". She was disrupting her own restaurant and being extremely unprofessional. My husband told her she was being unprofessional and she replied "it's none of your business" very rudely and got into an argument with him. She made it our business by yelling in her own restaurant. As we were leaving, he flipped her a bird and she kindly replied with a one fingered salute of her own and a loud f you to boot.
It's unfortunate because the food is good. Just not good enough to give them more business.
We will not be frequenting Chez Nous anymore and we encourage you to do the same. Pass this on to anyone else you think would care. Thanks!
Thumbs down. I will not return to Chez Nous due to the rude staff who stand around making inappropriate comments in spanish as patrons walk by. Extremely and unfortunate since the bakery items are pretty good. Need education in professional business conduct and cleanliness.
Pleasant atmosphere with great baked goods. Wide ranging menu of light meals. A bit pricey for the quality, but very pleasant. Certainly the nicest reasonably priced place in the area.
Amazing Bakery! Not so amazing restaurant.. I love trying new bakeries. However, I find myself going back over and over again to Chez Nous. Nothing in the Los Angeles area compares. The taste of the cheese croissants is one of the most heavenly flavors I have ever encountered. It is mouth watering delicious. But get there early because they are almost always out of them by 2 pm. As for the food, it's good but I avoid eating at the restaurant there because a) I'm not too fond of the wait staff (they could be quite a bit friendlier), b) it is overpriced for what it is and c) they don't take kindly to substitutions. That said, back to the bakery. When you do go, don't stop at the croissants...the cookies, cakes, danishes....they are all fantastic. And unlike the restaurant portion, the bakery is very reasonably priced.
Best Croissant Outside of Paris.... This place is a cross between French bakery and old L.A. diner/lounge. The decor could use updating and prices are a bit above average (but not exorbitant by any means). I have only gone for breakfast and lunch so cannot comment on ambience for dinner. It is one of my favorite neighborhood breakfast spots. The croissants are some of the best I've ever had. You can even get French toast made with a croissant. I have not ordered them myself but hear it is a tasty dish. Salads are great too.
Awesome Evening. We had a wonderful evening..I was invited for a Birthday dinner with six Friends. I was impressed, everything was super nice..I'm going back next week for my Birthday...:-)
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Neighborhood restaurant with full bar serving pastas, salads, more. Adjacent French bakery features fresh pastries, breads, specialty chocolate mousse.
Best Place EVER!!!. Great staff, great food, moderate prices, and many Celebrity sitings. The bakery is hands down the best in town and the benedicts are made on a croissonts.
