Gawd, I miss the tomato and cucumber salad (and dressing!)!!.
Peeps...if you're hankering for heaven in a bowl, don't wait, get over to have Mama Petrillo's tomato and cucumber salad. A sublime mix of tomato and cucumber chunks, some red onion slivers, and a good heaping of Mama Petrillo's own dressing--a mixture of canola oil, red wine vinegar, cheese, and spices.
I've been back in Massahusetts now for several years, and my sister has, thankfully, sent me a few bottles of dressing, but it's never enough! And it's definitely not the same as being in the real restaurant, eating the salad as the kitchen staff has prepared it!
The salad is seasonal, so make sure you ask if they're serving it. It's sized as an entree, so you might not need anything to accompany it, but spaghetti with marinara sauce would be all you need to reach nirvana.

ok pizza not the best.
This place is above average but is really overrated. I think it has a catchy name which helps and has the name petrillos and people might think it is related to the famous petrillos pizza. I dont like some of the toppings. whenever I get peppers they seem bagged and not fresh.I think the mushrooms are watery and possibly canned. I havent had it in a few years but i remember it was kinda extra salty. A couple of my brothers like it but when I get pizza I want top notch. Maybe I'll give it another try. I had the pizza again recently. I stayed away from the bellpeppers and canned mushrooms and it was actually better than I thopught it would be. I guess if you eat at the one in La verne they offer fresh mushrooms I was told. Still not the best but not bad either.

Our family loves Mama Petrillos.
This mainstay on Las Tunas is consistently good for Italian and Italian - American cuisine. My personal favorite is their pizza, but also good is their chicken cacciatore and lasagna with meatballs. Try their salad with their special dressing and see if your tastebuds don't go wild.

We've been going there since 1961.
My family has been going to Mama Petrillo's since 1960. It has a great pizza pie, that is indisputable. Great pizza sauce, great pizza dough.

Best little family pizza and pasta spot this side of the ravine....
I dont know what ravine I'm talking about... but having lived in NY, and Chicago and had pizza from the top notch places in both cities, I'm still fond of Mama Petrillos. Now I've been to the Petrillos on Valley, and I just am not as much a fan of their food as I am of Mama petrillos. Especially given that you can actually hear your partners at MAMA petrillos, and its easier to park there. GREAT for takeout. I love their tiny round peperoni that gets all crispy under the oven. The only thing I would change is the mushrooms. I love mushroom pizza but HATE that New york style pizza has mushrooms from a can. unfortunately, I think mama petrillos is emulating them.. and the mushrooms are not your typical fresh bellas or button mushrooms... But everything else is great. Try their salad dressing too. I have it shipped out to my friends cause they all love it from when I bring them here.
