Best Italian in Sherman Oaks!.
I drive by this restaurant almost every day and finally decided to give it a try last week. The reviews don't lie. This place is pretty special. We made a reservation and we had to wait a little , almost 25 minutes because this place was jam packed . I get the feeling all the locals go here because of its great ' familia style' and cheap delicious food. Although the owner( who made a point of personal greeting us and shaking our hand) seems to be Eastern European and not Italian. Clearly, they don't rush anyone as we were waiting there for a while. There will still people coming in at 915 -9 30 pm which is RARE to eat so late in LA . The meatball starters for 2.95 were delish, so light so airy! chicken siciliana and spaghetti portofino were amazing. I LOVE that they give you free tiramisu every time as well
This is a must try!
Our goto Italian Sitdown in the Valley.
Spumoni is our well-priced, above average, Italian sit down dinner restaurant. The owner is a wonderful restauranteur, friendly as all hell, and he always greets you with a smile. The food is VERY GOOD (but not great), and the service is above average. I love their Quattro Stagioni Pizza, and many of the pastas, gnocchis and chicken dishes are very good. The Caesar salad needs a bit of work.
Sometimes, if you are nice, you get a free piece of Tiramisu with dinner. I forget the owners' name, but he's very sweet with my son, and he always makes an effort to make him comfortable. In fact, Spumoni's is where our 5 year old chose to have his birthday dinner. Yes, even young kids can have good taste.
Everyone should get to Spumoni's - their lunch special is awesome.
Best Food and Service out there.. I don't know WHAT these outrageous people are saying below.. I am a very picky person and I try not to try anything new. But when one of my good friends recommended this place with such enthusiasm I had to try it. And luckily I did. I wasn't disappointed at all! The waiter named Vasak was a comical and genuinely nice guy who made sure EVERYTHING was taken care. The food was to DIE FOR! I had the Pollo Dela Casa which made my mouth water. The creamy sauce and warmly melted cheese is still on my mind. The dessert was free and I can?t believe anyone would have the nerve to complain about the size. That just shows what kind of person ?honeybuns84? is. I?m glad that cow of a person will never be returning so I will never run into them!!!! That?s just shocking.
if you like your food cold.
being myself from europe im kind of a specialist when it comes down to italian food so
my husband and i decided to check out this nice looking italian restaurant.
so we went here twice and i gotta say, unfortunately, both times were disappointing and the restaurant was empty (thursday and friday night)
i ordered the chicken parmigiana with pasta and vegetables and my husband got chicken with eggplant.
the only thing on the plate that was hot was the meat, the pasta was more than just al dente and the vegetables were cold and looked like they came right out of a bag. not a surprise that we got our food after 10 minutes !!!
the second time was even worse, and yes, we gave the restaurant a second chance to see if the first time was just a 'bad day' and well, here we go again.
my husband had chicken with alfredo sauce and i got spaghetti bolognese...
his chicken as usual was hot, but the rest was ice cold, my spaghetti were blend ,yet again more than al dente and the sauce was terrible. no seasoning whatsoever. very sad, but that wasnt the worst...
all of a sudden, the employees, thought it would be a great idea to clean the dishwasher and the whole restaurant started to smell so bad and strong (because of the cleaner) that i almost threw up while eating... all thumbs down
the only positive thing was that we got free desserts both times........(tiny 'try out' size, though)
Food was good but service was horrid!. The food was decent enough. I love gnocchi and they had lots to choose from... the service was, however, HORRIBLE! The place wasn't even packed. For the good hour and a half that we were there we saw our waiter 2 times. Once to place the order and once (after we chased him down) to give us the check. No refills, no desserts were offered. In a food culture like the LA area you cannot lack on service. I won't be going back due to the service and so-so food.
My words can only explain so much........
This restaurant has been on my number one list for many years, and will continue to be for many more because of its such great qualities. Vasik is not only the best waiter around but the greatest most sincere friend you will ever hope to have. Go to this restaurant and i dare you not to be friends with him, his charming extremely large smile will persuade anyone to have some wine and tiramisu (which is persuasive enough on its own!...my mouth is watering as i speak :) Reading the two reviews below mine i can't help but disagree on the highest level. Perfection does not exist but spumoni comes close to it, and they constantly work at perfecting what they do. In response to the supposed inequality they were accused of i say " ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Lets just say, in order to keep peace, that if you are completely obnoxious don't blame the cold shoulder on you're status of race, religion, or anything of the sort.
simply, try it for yourself. if anything i said turns out to be of untruth then may my heart stop its beating as of now.
i love spumoni and feel very strongly about its high quality and outstanding EVERYTHING! the de la casa is OUTSTANDING and I?ve had it for years, Caesar salad with chicken is a good alternative for losing weight ( I lost 3 pounds on the spumoni ceasar salad diet!!?but soon gained it back because their tiramisu is fantastically made. )
humm cons, the art work I?m not crazy about, Italy needs better representation ( I'm a photographer myself) the floor is a bit hard to walk on in high HIGH heels, so ladies watch out.
Used to be better. We used to order from this restaurant every week or so, for mostly pizza, salads and pasta. I feel like something has changed for the worse in the kitchen. The pizza is still good but not the rest of what we used to like. For instance, one of the best dishes, the spaghetti portofino (rock shrimp, spaghetti, pink vodka sauce) has gone downhill. The shrimp are chewy and watery, and the sauce is tasteless. I've tried it 3 times in the last 3 months, and it was bad each time. The salad dressings seem like they come out of a supermarket and they are using horrible unripe roma tomatoes, and hardly give you any. Don't get the tomato and fresh mozz salad - it should be with large beefsteak tomatoes. The lettuce is watery. I really hope they change, otherwise, we are just going to order pizza.
Somewhat pleasant, not "family" friendly.
After reading many positive reviews, we decided to try this establishment. The owner seated us and made us feel welcome. The ceasar salad looked sparse and was medicore, however, the gnocci was very good.
One disturbing note. Although the owner made us feel welcome, the waiter was less than warm. While he was more than pleasant to others dining, it was apparent that our waiter has a problem with serving gay clientele.
Great Food, Great Price, Great Service!. We just happened to stumble upon this quaint restaurant in our neighborhood. We were plesently suprised by a smiling service staff, extrodinary food, and a complimentary dessert. I think we've just found our new favorite spot!
