Editorial Review for Wax Poetic Salon – by Lilla Zuckerman
The Scene
This white and purple salon has a sunny disposition, whether it's from the light streaming through the plate glass windows, the inspirational quotes painted on the walls or the cheerful and welcoming attitude of the gregarious staff. Treatment rooms, like most waxing salons, are pared down and sparse. The reception area, however, is loaded with enough aromatic goodies, herbal skin remedies, and bath indulgences to make customers feel pampered and girlie.
The Services
Full service hair treatments are available from color to blow dry, but the specialty of the house is waxing. Owner Kerry Hite is known as the "Anastasia of the Valley," and her staff consists of well-trained protégés, who will leave your skin feeling silky smooth, without a trace of irritation. These experts have been known to fix even the worst waxing disaster by coaxing hair growth with powerful concoctions and re-waxing to fix mistakes of others.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasOrder an E-lix-r tonic from the bar for $3.50. These beverages are based on traditional Chinese medicines and are made with fruit and herb extracts to promote balance, relaxation, energy and health.
WaxingFull-body waxing is available for both sexes. That's right--men can go ahead and get a manzilian wax job, but it does cost a bit more than a women's Brazilian.
Know Before You GoArt shows featuring local artists are hosted here every six weeks and pieces are exhibited until the next show. Call for more information.

I went to this waxing place without a personal recommendation from someone I knew, I guess that was my first mistake in seeking a decent Brazilian . I waited over an hour for my appointment and I was the only person in there. The staff at the front desk, one of them I believe was the owner, was so inattentive and rude. I'm not the kind of person that needs to be dotted on either, but they completely ignored me! The actual wax.. holy hell, what a nightmare. The woman was doing my Brazilian and my half leg at the same time, and was so aggressive. It was extremely painful, I couldn't catch my breath, my eyes were watering like crazy, and I started to feel really nauseous. I'm no amateur, and was shocked at how painful this was. The wax was boiling and I kept flinching every time she put it on my legs because it was burning my skin. I asked her to let the wax cool a little bit because it hurt, and her response was " Yeah well wax is hot" then again I asked her and she said "You're almost done" Are you kidding me? My skin was irritated for 3 days, and the whole point in getting the leg wax was because I was going to an event that I was wearing a dress for, that I couldn't wear because I looked like a leper. Not to mention my Brazilian was patchy. My friend came along with me and had a different person do her Brazilian and also had a bad experience. the worst place ever. I would never recommend it to anyone.
Pros: I know to never go there ever again
Cons: everything about it- even the bathroom was dirty.

I went to this salon a few times with different stylists and I was satisfied enough. Finally I found Nicole (NEVER go to her if you need color or attention to detail). She was nice at first and payed some attention to me, but then she got a new boyfriend and that's all I heard about and, apparently, that's all that was on her mind. She canceled a VERY important appointment I had made the night before (most likely hung over as she had explained she was before) and forced me to find another salon on short notice on a weekend. I didn't hold it against her and went back for a root touch up for platinum blonde hair. I spent $140.00 for cut and color and she literally singed my hair off at the roots. She passed me off to her assistant (who only seemed to care that his boyfriend was the way over to see him for lunch) and he applied WAY too much bleach to my already bleached hair, and I left with about 2 inches of hair on the top of my head, and I had medium long hair to begin with. When I called for a refund, due to the fact that I was basically bald on the top of my head... (I NEVER complain about services, usually I can fix it myself or it's not THAT big of a deal) she said "I knew I should have had you sign a waiver", and that was completely unprofessional. She did refund my money, but she didn't care at all that one of her regular (good tipping, by the way) customers was unsatisfied. Please, I beg you, DO NOT go to this salon or you will be sorry! They care more about socializing than taking care of clients needs. Bokaos or Renaissance in Pasadena/Glendale are AMAZING! Highly recomended!
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything
