Quaint Vegetarian Spot off the beaten path

It takes guts to open a vegetarian restaurant with Albert Einstein quotes on the cover of each menu in a neighborhood like Huntington Park. It's not a scary place, but neither is it anywhere near an eco-friendly, hippie 'hood. My friends and I decided to combine La Flor Del Loto with a visit to Watts Towers (also highly recommended). The atmosphere, while simply decorated, is warm and inviting. They offer a great juice menu, with a medium (really a large by LA standards) only running you $2.99. The salsa they serve is very tasty and pretty spicy. Too bad it comes with the yellow, ballpark-nachos-and-cheese tortilla chips from a bag. Meals are served with brown rice and refried black beans. I thought all of the entrees could have used a little more of a kick, both spice and salt wise, but it was easily remedied with Cholula and a shaker. We left pleasantly full, paying about $12 each including tip, for one meal and a juice a piece plus a shared desert. Would definitely go back if I am in the neighborhood again.
- Pros: Healthy food, great service, tasty juices
- Cons: A schlep if you're not already close by
