What People Are Saying About Bikram's Yoga College Of India
Featured Review

The Scene – With a strong background in hatha yoga, Bikram Choudhury spent years with doctors and scientists perfecting his own system. In 1974, he opened the Yoga College of India in Beverly Hills. The method is a rigorous and demanding workout that will put even highly trained athletes to the test. A studio over 100 degrees keeps students sweating while they perform a series of 26 traditional asanas (poses) in reps, with continuous verbal direction from attentive teachers. Every muscle, joint, organ, and pore is affected. It isn't particularly peaceful in the moment, but afterward,…
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- In addition to the obvious--turn off cell phones or pagers--you are asked to not wear cologne or perfume to class.
Surprisingly very very rude and dissapointing first impression.

I love Bikram but won't be going here!! When I called to make sure the online schedule was current, and to make sure the class that I wanted was taught in English, I was spoken to in an unbelievably rude and sarcastic way. Apparently he was unaware that other studios do classes in languages other than English, and was shocked to hear the question. I will be going back to the studio in Redondo Beach where everyone is friendly and informative, and I already know the schedule!
I did not even make it to the class

The man at the desk was so rude, I left. I really love Bikram Yoga and I used to take classes in Arizona in a great studio in Scottsdale and everyone was so polite and fun...Here, the first contact was so horrible, maybe they have enough business, they did not need me...very sad because I need them recovering from Moersh-Woltman Syndrome, I really needed to work out, just could not handle the stress at the desk. Maybe if he knew I was a famous artist, his mood will have change...

Bikram Yoga Hong Kong
by fredknight
I admired you Los Angelists. I have practiced Bikram yoga in Hong Kong for over two years and loved it much. Bikram visited Hong Kong few months ago. However, two weeks ago Bikram yoga Hong Kong suddenly ?renamed?? as Planet Yoga (hosted by a Master Kamal) overnight. Then there is no more Bikram teacher and no more Bikram postures which are now replaced by unknown and random hot static yoga postures.
Rude Employees and Dirty Poorly Kept Facility
by rchristu
I've practiced yoga at over a dozen facilities in the last 6 years and Bikram's location on La Cienega is by far my least preferred. My main complaint is regarding the facility. For the amount of money that they charge you would think that basic maintenance would be preformed to keep the place from looking like an inner-city YMCA. The carpet is covered in stains (and stinks), 50% of the amenities in the locker-room are broken (i.e. lockers, soap dispensers and bathroom stall doors) and the awful fluorescent lights in the yoga room are constantly flickering.
Every class has the exact same format and despite this fact most of the teachers are unbearable. These particulars along with the fact that the people working the front are less than friendly make it a rather unpleasant studio to visit.
- Pros: Street Parking
- Cons: See above
The Best Yoga
by layogi
I have been practicing Bikram yoga for 2 and half years now, and have never felt better in my life! The heat can be intimidating at first, but once you get used to it, you wouldn't think about doing yoga in a non-heated room. There are several Bikram yoga studios around L.A., but the studio on La Cienega (Headquarter) is the best, because Bikram himself teaches a few classes a week (at least one class a week).
- Pros: Great teachers, Spacious, Convenient parking
- Cons: bit expensive
