The Scene
Room Service houses all you need to create the uber-modern lifestyle. It's Wallpaper magazine incarnate--without all those pouting, dewy models.
The Goods
A perfect complement to nearby Zipper, this store is packed with lovely goodies that'll send you right back to the past, or to the future, depending on whether you remember egg chairs the first time around. Reaching all levels of daily life, the displays--cleverly arranged to resemble real-life rooms--include streamlined glass-top tables, platform beds, modular desks, couches and chairs. The furniture and accessories are of the same simple, high-design vein: Square wooden lamps, bamboo-printed cafeteria trays, geometric bed linens, even the toothbrush is given a modern makeover. Going beyond home and office decorating, there's a collection of women's clothing, bath and beauty products from "We live like this," and Oh Boy cards for snail mail correspondence.

I am unsure of why there are some negative reviews here, my experience couldn't have been more pleasant. I wasn't sure what to expect, having never been there before, but when I went with my boyfriend we were surprised by all the cool stuff they had. Design from the 50's and 60's but not vintage, these were inspired by that time. They told us everything was new and that it was made here in Los Angeles. I hadn't been to a store that had this kind of furniture that was anywhere near our price range. We were looking for a sectional for some time and we just weren't sure on styles and details. The staff there was very nice and we soon found out they were furniture and interior designers. They even offer a consultation service, we didn't need it at the time, but it was great to know it was available. We spoke to a gentleman who asked us a lot of questions we hadn't thought of and helped steer us in the right direction, size-wise and color-wise. When we got the sofa, it was (and is still) way cool and super comfortable and it didn't take that long to make. Overall we were very impressed with Room Service and will go back when we need other pieces. Good Job Room Service!

I had a terrible experience with this place. I worked with a designer who is pals with some of the guys that work there, so I was definitely a little pressured in going with them. They were so slow and rude when I was at the store, ignoring me literally as I was trying to pay for the furniture...in full in advance...so they could chat with acquaintances in the store. Then, I dealt with them delivering my furniture - they completely didn't show the first time it was scheduled. The second time, they delivered it during the only time I asked them not to. The store was not only unhelpful and unsympathetic with my frustration...but was very rude to me and actually lectured me when I called to discuss the issue with them. They basically told me that although the delivery guys put the furniture in the wrong room, and delivered it duirng the wrong time (when I wasn't there), and didn't move the old furniture (as they told me they would), that it was my problem and that I shouldn't really be frustrated because, and I quote, "they are human beings." I couldn't believe it. Also, the furniture itself is a bit shoddy, and not worth the money. It doesn't look like the renderings they made...and the craftmanship leaves a little to be desired. At least I didn't make a huge investment this time. I definitely won't be going back. Unless you are buying something off the showroom floor...I'd think twice before going here.
