Don't let Progressive Insurance persuade you to go here – Progressive Insurance recommends this place and says they guarantee the work there. That's why I went there to fix damage to my car. I should have gone elsewhere.
This place didn't update me regarding when the car would be ready (it was up to me to call and find out). I was just happy to get my car back, so I didn't make a fuss. They had me pay before they even showed me the car. I thought this was odd, but paid them before they brought the car around.
After picking up my car, I noticed that there was very slight damage to a part of the car that was in perfect condition when I brought it in. It looks like a piece of machinery bumped into it. I notified both the insurance (Progressive) and the body shop about the damage. But the body shop won't fix it because they say the damage may have been there originally.
I asked the insurance company and body shop to look at initial photos of the car when I brought it in for the estimates and such, but they say that may not prove anything. Strange that they don't consider their own photos-- pictures they took-- to be reliable. Anyway, I never initialed or acknowledged that there was damage on that part of the car. Usually a place will have you initial and then give you a copy. This place doesn't give you a copy of anything except for the receipt.
Unfortunately, First Class Auto Body is more like Last Class Auto Body. They fix things okay, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Expect the guys there to talk about you in Armenian (which for some reason they assume only Armenians will understand). The Progressive employees that hang around in the office aren't much better-- just as rude if they want to be.
From what I've gathered from reviews, it's not the first time they've messed something up on a car. I have had only one other experience with an auto body shop, but it was so different (much better) than this one. Since Progressive likes to push this body shop on their customers, I think I may be switching insurance. What an absolute headache.
They may get you killed – I went here because Progressive insurance recommended them to me after an accident I had. Originally my car was supposed to be done on a Monday, but they called to tell me it would take longer because my suspension failed testing. On Tuesday, I had a minor argument with someone there over repairs that they were deciding not to do (my convertible top was damaged from the accident and they didn't want to fix it, they make no money from it). Tuesday evening I received a call telling me that my car was done, that they "fixed" my suspension.
I picked my car up last week and the manager there told me that my brake lights didn't work. I knew they weren't broken before bringing it there because had been pulled over the day of my accident. The cop gave me a window tint and front license plate ticket, he surely would have told me my brake lights were out. Anyhow, when I got the car home I discovered someone removed my brake light fuse. Also, the cover to my battery was in my back seat. When I drove the car it rattled violently at 30mph.
I took my car to my mechanic to check it over, because the car was undrivable. My mechanic discovered they did nothing to fix my suspension, my engine mounts were broken (the engine was about to fall out), my passenger rear wheel was wobbling side to side, and there was fluid leaking from the bottom of the car. All the damage is on the side where I had the accident. I feel that they could have gotten me killed by giving me the car like that.
I haven't figured out yet if First Class Auto Body is incompetent or evil. Either way I'm currently taking action to sue.
