great meeting place, wonderful service, fun shabu, less bar, always super fresh food, big name music blues guitarist icons, love little hidden gem
Average Shabu Shabu. This use to be a real gem, but has gone done a bit in quality. It's a real small place in a strip mall. Way too much cabbage, and not enough other veggies. It's kinda over price for what you get. Meat is all cut up sometimes. and I have to ask for another portion. It's okay. I haven't been back much lately asthe last 3 times was a major disappointment
Hands down.. The best in LA.. My wife and I have been going here for many years since it opened. It has changed ownership a few times, and the newest and best owner is a wonderful fellow named Taka. He is usually there (except fridays) and will do anything he can to make you happy, especially if you buy him a beer! Make no mistake, even though this is a small place, it has been found by many celebrities who, through their travels know about genuinely good Shabu Shabu and also have selected Shabu Hachi as their favorite. One might see the current worlds #1 female tennis star or cast members from shows like Vegas and Heroes eating there quietly as well as some big name music blues guitarist icons who frequent the place. Like a sushi bar, its also a great meeting place as everyone is friendly and ready to strike up a conversation to go with the absolutely delicious stuff Taka serves up. The sauces are better than the other places in town and Taka is always surprising us with little tidbits he cooks up in the kitchen to go along with the regular menu items. He also offers a great selection of premium Sake's and exquisite drinks from Japan/China that are terrific! Sure its a little expensive, but less than a good sushi bar and much healthier for you. As soon as the local news food critics get a hold of this place the secret will be out.. but that only ensures that Shabu Hachi will be there for our selfish pleasure for a long time to come. Enjoy!!
best in L.A.
Shabu hachi is a small but cozy place. It is absolutely delicious!
The service is wonderful too. All of the waiters are smiling and make you
laugh. It was a little hard to understand some of their accents but that did not
matter much. I am DEFINETLY going there again!!!
below average for the food they serve. I've been to other shabu shabu places and I have to say that this one had to be one of the worst ones. Small portions through out. I was hoping for better quality meats for the prices they charge. I was very disappointed in the veggie portion and the sauces. The only thing good about this place is the location. I don't think I'll be coming back
We love Shabu-Hachi!!. This is our regular shabu-shabu place. The parking situation is a little tough but we always find parking at the meters across the street and it doesn't put us out to simply cross the street. We love the Salmon Carpaccio and the "lean beef" shabu-shabu. I've never been anywhere else that offers a "lean beef" option (the regular beef is also offered). The sauces are very tasty and the service is wonderful: attentive and friendly even on busy nights. I will choose them over a commercialized shabu-shabu place any day. Keep up the good work Shabu-Hachi!!
Great Service..OK food.
Went here the other day for lunch with my girlfriend, who is a vegetarian, and has a little let down. After years and years of following CitySearch overall scores, I finally found one place which was not "up to par". The location of the restaurant is just as stated, holein the wall, in s strip mall, next to a 7-11. No problem with that, the parking situation though is another story. OF the about 20 spaces they have 5 are "reserved" for 7-11 and they have Mr.TowAway waiting right there if anyone parks there who is NOT a 7-11 customer. The restaurant itself is small and cozy. Perfect for a nice lunch and thats about all. The service was amazing and some of the best I have experienced in sometime.
The food selection needs a little work, esp. for vegetarians. I myself got the chicken shabu shabu, which was a little on the dry side when cooked. But, they are larger pieces and large portions at very reasonable prices. The vegetarian choices though are very lax. They do give you a large plate of veggies, but about 80% of the plate is lettuce and mushrooms. The most interesting part was that my plate of chicken cost LESS than the veggie plate.
I hvae had much better Shabu in LosAngeles, but becuase a lack of Shabu everywhere, I would go back... but only if I was no where near another shabu restaurant.
oy whata shabulicious lunch.
Fantastic! my wonderful neice took me out yesterday for lunch thought this place was a gem of a place.
first I thought yuk next to a 7-eleven & dry cleaners. But now I have to go twice a
week. Food, service A+
Can I tell you. This is my favorite little spot to share with friends. The food is always super fresh and the service can't be beat. The upgrades they have made to the resturant over the past year is welcomed. The best improvement was management. If you've ever have a chance to meet Taka, he's one of the kindest most accomodating people every. The new and improved menu is also a treat. Hands down one of my favorite resturants.
Best in LA - and so healthy too!. I am becoming a regular to this little neighborhood japanese eatery. If you haven't tried Shabu Shabu, you should come here. The staff is so friendly, the ambiance is nice and the food and appetizers are excellent. They'll teach you the ropes of how to boil your meat or seafood in hot water for an excellent healthy alternative. Also, I'm noticing a great and expanding selection of saki each time I go. This is a great place to bring a date or a group of friends for a unique dining experience.
Best Shabu Shabu. I love this little hidden gem! Its the best place to get great Shabu Shabu. Great service and ambiance. I went there on a weeknight and it wasn't that crowded.
