GREAT (bad reviews from 2006 are for a DIFFERENT RESTAURANT). I have no idea what the reviews below for AVENUE are doing here. These reviews re. poor quality are from 2006 -- Darren's did not even exist in Manhattan Beach in 2006. Clearly, this citysearch listing needs revision so that the reviews posted for Darren's are, actually, about Darren's...which is quite good, by the way.

Loved the Brunch. Took my family to Avenue on Mother's Day per a friends request. We have since been back twice and recommend it to all our friends. Brunch was terrific. I had stuffed French Toast and my husband said his Eggs Benedict was the best he ever had. My mom had more of a lunch-style trout and couldn't stop talking about it. It was nice to see other families out with children. We always worry that we are going to be disruptive to other diners, but Avenue was very accomodating. Ask to sit on the patio if available. Thanks Avenue...terrific job on a busy holiday!

Chef Shaffer has done it again. If you had been to Chloe in Playa del Rey you know what I mean. Chloe was by far the BEST restaurant in Los Angeles. I was saddened by Chloe's closure and ventured to Avenue last night for the first time. My date and I were seated on the heated patio (hesitant at first) and it was magnificent. Warm and quiet, it was fun to spend a "winter's night" outside. We ordered duck and bison, each was cooked to perfection. Our waiter (Harlan from Chloe) made perfect wine selections to accompany each course. I was thrilled to see that the famous Hot Chocolate dessert was still there. Chef Shaffer was not in, however his wife has taken over as manager. She is welcoming and goes out of her way to ensure your satisfaction. Congratulations on another true success. We will be back!
