good food. My rating is certainly not based on the bartender, not friendly at all. The service is timely, they are however slow to greet you. The food is good and I have been a repeat customer for a long time. They really do need to work on the "friendly" part of running a restaurant. A bit on the pricey side however it is a nice place. If you want cheap it shows in the decor and quality of the food. Pho next door is noisy, not comfortable and cold decor. I am getting take out tonight for 3 people.
yes, it's trendy. but the atmosphere is great, and the food is good. is it the most authentic thai food in the world? maybe not. but you can order things as spicy as you'd like them, and the fish dishes are awesome. i'd definitely recommend it.
Trendy, friendly Thai restaurant enlivens the staid Silver Lake dining scene.. Hidden in the corner of a rundown Silver Lake mini-mall, this casually chic neighborhood eatery attracts Eastsiders enjoying a closer-to-home alternative to Palms Thai and Saladang. Tastefully mirrored green walls surround dark wood tables and intimate banquets, while a large wood-carved gold Buddha commands the cozy dining room and small bar. Service is accommodating but hurried. Traditional, vibrant dishes are augmented by imaginative flavors unconcerned with potentially sensitive American tastebuds; everything is just spicy enough. The best Thai tapas are green curry dumplings, delicate shrimp and scallop-filled pillows ripe with zesty flavor; and the beef waterfall, charbroiled top sirloin on cabbage cups bathed in tear-inducing lime chili dressing. For entrees, the barbecue duck curry boasts a healthy portion of meat in spicy red broth, and the fire-grilled Siam pork chops radiate with garlic flavor.
Decent at best.. Unpleasant experience overall. I drove from OC to expect great Thai food, but not the case. I could have drove to a local Thai joint to get the same experience. And the parking... forget it about it. I had to park 7 blocks from Rambutan, passing through dark alleys and homeless people on the sidewalk. The restaurant is in a bad neighborhood and I don't recommend bringing your MBs or BMWs. The service was decent.
good ambience. i've visited this restaurant two times, first time was more memorable but the second time i realized the food was catered for people who has a very sweet palette. Thai food is not supposed to be so sweet, and the stir fried noodles my friend and i ordered came out luke warm - almost cold. The spring rolls were rather tough as well. but overall, it has a good atmosphere esp. at night and i think the green curry dish was decent. i won't recommend it to people unless they arent picky on food.
Good if you don't know anything about good food.. At dinner here my bf and I ordered the kung ping shrimp which arrived cold and was a bit tasteless, but not totally aweful. BEWARE OF THE TOM YUM SOUP. WAY too lemony and completely overbearing. The spicy thai rice was super spicy even though requested medium. Thats the one good thing about this place is if you like very spicy, you'll get it no matter what. I didnt like it for this dish because it was all I could taste. Chopsticks are too heavy and strained my fingers. Staff was nice but never gave us water, or refills, and only came to the table to take away our plate or get the check. This is a great little thai place if you haven't tasted really good food. My reccomendations, go right next door to the vietnamese PHO CAFE, the ambiance may not be as great as Rambuten, but its cheeper, and you will feel totally satisfied by the service and food.
best pad thai around. Thai food is my favorite and after being in Thailand, most places don't compare. Hands down I consistently get the best Thai food here. Their noodles are always perfectly cooked. The curries are delicious as well as the fun appetizers. If I crave Thai, I have to go out of my way to get it from rambutan or I am not satisfied. They have a fun drink menu too.
lost its luster.. this place used to be my favorite thai restaurant but last time i came in i noticed some changes; the prices had risen and the service and food quality had dropped significantly. i'll never go back again.
Secluded weekend-only lounge inside of Rambutan Thai restaurant is one of Silver Lake's best kept secrets..
In Short
Tucked away in a shopping center, this secluded lounge is even more hidden once inside its sister restaurant, where it sits behind a hidden door. A DJ plays techno and house music in the corner, while casual clad locals and late night diners flow into for high-decibel lounging while sipping colorful soju concoctions. Circular lo lights are paired with the glow of candles, and bamboo thatched pipes create a hut-like appearance. A small bonsai tree holds faux jewels from its branches.
Fun Thai in LA. In the back corner of a small strip mall sits Rambutan Thai. There's not much to the parking area but when you enter this quiet Thai resturant there's a comfortable feeling a great food. The staff is exceptionally certious and helpful and the food to great. My wife and I have been a number of times now and each time the food and the service has been outstanding and consistant. If you're in search of a great Thai dish and a hip resturant to hang out at then I would absolutly recommend this place to anyone. Favorite Dishes: Beef Waterfall and the Original Pad Thai.
