Citysearch Editorial Review. When visiting the city of Redondo Beach, taking a stroll along its famed pier is a must. The pier has been around for over 100 years and the seafood alone is worth many return trips. Fresh-from-the-ocean faves from fried clams to steamed crab legs are shelled out by the dozens at the many casual outdoor eateries along the bottom level of the pier (right next to the arcade). Guests looking for more than a grab-and-go experience can head to the top levels and dine with an ocean view. Aside from the seafood and comfort food treats (pizza, hot dogs on a stick, soft-serve cones) along its docks, the pier also doubles as a haven for casual shopping and entertainment with a few bars as well. Summers offers free events like music fests and family-friendly performances.

Play at the Pier. Great fun for cheap! Bring the whole family for fresh seaside air and affordable fun for all ages. Come one, come all. Everyone is welcome.

Pizza & Pearls. Any time I have an out-of-town visitor, I bring them to the Redondo Beach Pier. I have some of my earliest memories at Redondo Beach, eating at Zeppy?s Pizzeria while overlooking the waves and watching the gulls land on the wooden rails outside the windows and sticking my toes in the sand. Not much has changed, I still love to do that, but a new addiction is visiting Kobe Pearl, and picking out oysters to get a pearl. I?m not sure when the tradition began, but somehow it did. I?ve brought people from Ireland, Brazil, France and many other places to that same shop to pick out an oyster. The guy that operates the shop, though his name eludes me, is a gem, always very happy with his cheering sayings like ?C?mon double, double? AYY-YAH!? with a smile while opening the oyster to reveal your pearl. You pay something like $12 and you keep whatever pearl is inside?most of the time around at least $60 value. It?s a great souvenir and the man?s love for what he does is absolutely evident. Following that excitement, and a slice of Zeppy?s Sicilian pizza, it?s off to the arcade for some air hockey or ski ball. It makes for some great memories?which are always the best souvenirs.

Nice beach. Redondo has always been a nice place to spend a day at the beach. The pier itself hasn't fully recovered from the damage done by the fire and ocean, but the re-built sections offer a nice walk out above the water. The arcade used to be huge and fun, but is now a shadow of its former self. The restaurants are a bit better than at Santa Monica, and El Torito offers some very nice ocean views. Polly's offers a nice huevos rancheros. Most of the stores are tourist traps, but offer a quintessential SoCal beach experience for the tourist. Parking isn't generally a problem here, and on clear days you can see out to Catalina. The beach itself is a victim of erosion, but is still a nice, peaceful place if you want a good SoCal beach experience.

An old time fave. Visiting the RB Pier these days (now that its new parts are fully integrated) is very reminiscent of my childhood years when my father "forced" us to drive an hour in a beat up station wagon to "the pier". It's still a great place to spend the day near the ocean, stroll through some kitschy shops, indulge in some clam chowder, watch the people, and just cop a squat and enjoy the antics of the local seagull population. Enjoy some SoCal history and have lunch and a cocktail at the old Tony's on the pier, or take the family for an afternoon of arcade games and fresh steamed crab. What could be better?

Not the best, but definitley my Fave. I cant say this pier beats Santa Monica Pier for attractions, but its sure on my list. Yep, its old, and its sometimes a bit dirty, but its a great way to spend the day. They have shops and tours around the pier. El Torito is also right on the pier which is a great romantic spot to take your partner. It hasnt really fully recovered from the storm that took out most of the old pier, but you can still buy crab legs and claws, and eat them outside. Possibly the freshest and tastiest sea food you can find. There is a huge arcade and midway under the pier next to the parking lot. And for those who like to jog, Redondo beach has about a 2-3 mile bike trail for biking, jogging, walking, and roller blading, Plus there is the beach. Not bad for this old pier.
