DOESNT ALLOW COSTUMES ON HALLOWEEN?? WHY?
by a local parent at Citysearch
As a First time parent who pays tuition at this school I expect my child to enjoy the Halloween season just like I did when I was young. BUT NOOOOO this school says well you can wear plain colored Halloween tops with uniform bottoms. Our childrens childhood is very short and they should have the same opportunities and experiences that we had as children and to be robbed of that experience is a crime. If this school doesnt change this will be their last year.
- Pros: local
- Cons: NO COSTUMES ON HALLOWEEN
Not happy

Have you ever heard of forced donations? Is that legal? Just to keep their tuition down, we have to "donate" to church a minimum specified amount to qualify for the lowest tution rate. In addition, they actually have detention for children even in the first grade for stupid reasons. Have brought up the issue to other elementary school teachers and they agree that detention is too harsh for a little kid that just missed something small. Plus, there are so many fundraisers that everyone we've sold to is saying, "when is it going to end?" One word, SCRIP. Why do we have to make a profit of $100 or else we pay $100 if we dont use it? It feels like we are purchasing food stamps. No one we know wants to even buy the store vouchers when they have cash or credit card on hand. THEN, if you dont complete the 40 service hours in a year, you pay $10 per hour for every hour not completed. SOOOO on top of fundraising, scrip, service hours, you also have mandatory bingo hours (not included in your 40 hours), which you have to set aside at a certain date of the school year. C'mon parents! you work hard, some households have both mother and father working, some have single parent households...it's just really difficult financially and work schedule-wise when money has to be made. I suppose that money needs to also be funneled to the Archdiocese to pay for all the lawsuits. Now it is a Catholic school, so if you're going for a good Catholic education, I only have to say that they are OK. The kids go to mass every so often and learn something. But I feel that it's the same as every other Catholic school.
- Pros: nice play yard
- Cons: Certain rules
