Before it became the neighborhood hot spot, bartenders were serving up spirits to off-duty cops at this local haunt. After the Rampart scandal hit, a new group of investors took over, including former Afghan Whigs singer Greg Dulli, and the cop crowd thinned out. Some of the original decor is still intact, including gun lockers and police rings, but now there's a DJ on some nights and a much younger crowd. It's spacious and comfortable, with three separate rooms. Step up to shoot some pool or step down to the dance floor. Just be prepared to elbow your way through the crowd to get a drink at…
Editor's Tips
- Happy Hour:
- Every day from 5pm to 8pm, get $1 off all drinks, free pool and complimentary jukebox selections.
- Know Before You Go:
- Can't find the entrance? Look for the neon "cocktails" sign and the smokers huddled in front of it.

The Short Stop Heats Up on Thursday Nights
by goserenakim
Last week I went to the Short Stop for the first time and was stoked and surprised to discover good music and a hopping dance floor on a Thursday night. Sick and tired of hearing all that nauseating club music from top 40 radio stations, it was good to hear music aficionados playing rare groove joints and hip-hop that they actually cared about. On top of that, people actually dance here, but it's a mellow vibe. Love the affordable drinks and the divey Echo Park vibe feels very authentic. I'll be going there with all my girlfriends every Thursday to pay homage to DJ O-Dub and Murphy's Law!
- Pros: Live DJs; cheap drinks; cute people
- Cons: Why can't this be every night of the week?
Pre-Dodger game spot
by mark
Experienced the Short Stop for the first time this week. Excellent spot to have an adult beverage prior to a Dodger game. The bar had $2 draft specials and the tamales they were selling were outstanding. Pool tables in the back room add some variety. 90% of the crowd seemed to be going to the game. Nice spot.
Place to hang out to met a new person

On my 21st bday I went there ever since I been going there 4 2yrs now. Its small but its a dream bar for any on they got music pool table and huge crowds of fun people to met. Don't matter what day u go its going to be cracking. N the one person who said there rude its a bar not a restaurant. Make the best of it joy la or any one out of town
Rude!
by RedLips
Do not go there and give that place any business! I was there this past Saturday and had a HORRIBLE experience. We were there early at 9pm, before the huge crowd had arrived. The bar was EMPTY. The bartender was SO rude and totally unprovoked. HER LACK OF BASIC MANNERS WAS TRULY SHOCKING. She made us feel really awkward, which is not what you want to feel when you are out trying to have fun and spend your hard earned money. I could understand if the bar was packed, a bartender may be rushed and seem rude, but there was no one there! She turned us off so much that we left. With so many people looking for work these days, I can not support a business that employs bratty people with zero social skills.
Great bar before a ball-game
by doublddsn
Great place to go before a Dodger Game! Stadium entrance right down the street. It got crowded quick though, get there early for a bar stool. Service was awesome. Just dont try to move a bar stool from one end to the other.... they dont like that.
We went before a white sox vs. Dodgers game and the place was full with both fans.
Good hang.
- Pros: Location to Dodger Stadium, Service, Ambience
- Cons: Crowded, Parking
