In Short – This cash-only doughnut stand draws legions of suburbanites, softball teams and college kids to a stretch of old Route 66. Assembled before patrons' eyes, warm glazed doughnuts are split open and heaped with mounds of locally grown strawberries or peaches, dripping with a glaze made from their own juices. Simple cake doughnuts with rainbow sprinkles have a nutmeg zing, and cinnamon rolls have a buttery, sugary crunch.

Is this the same place that in the late 70's made the BEST buttermilk bars? I remember going late night when they were fresh out of the fryer.

When to Go:
Donut Man does its baking in the wee hours of the morning, so show up before 8am for first crack at the selection. Come even earlier, and doughnuts will still be hot.
The Extras:
After midnight, bakers will usually let customers create their own doughnuts. Tell them what kind to start with--cake or glazed--and what you'd like added, from cream filling to chopped nuts.
