The best Chinese cuisine in North America, unfortunately, isn't in the US. Toronto and Vancouver are the only two cities that offer Chinese food that can rival Hong Kong's. Nonetheless, in LA, Sea Harbor would be your best bet for dim sum and Cantonese cuisines. The best HK style dim sum in LA. Dinner could get ultra expensive if you are not careful of what you ordered. e.g. $240 pp for a dehydrated abalone main course.

Best Dim Sum

Sea Harbour has built its reputation as the best Dim Sum outside of Hong Kong. The long lines outside is an indication of the popularity of the relatively new restaurant. The first I went I was turned off by the wait. However, after an hour of waiting, I was taken by the food. Simply the BEST Dim Sum I have ever tasted! Recently they also added a Rowland Heights location. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Know Before You Go:
Dim sum is available every day until 3pm. Peak hours are usually from 11am to 1pm. Arrive earlier or later to avoid what can sometimes be a one-hour wait, especially on weekends.
What to Drink:
A limited wine and beer menu is available, but many selections are high-priced Napa Cabernets. Corkage is $10 per bottle.
Look Good:
Certain dinner items, such as whole fried pidgeon and some seafood dishes must be ordered in advance.
