Editorial Review for Tantra – by Jane Tunks
The Scene
With vibrant silk hanging lamps, swashes of orange and magenta, and a small pond strewn with floating candles, Tantra brings Bollywood glamour to the Eastside. After dinner, slip into the lounge's low-slung banquettes and soak in the DJ's eclectic soundtrack.
The Food
The menu veers all over the Indian subcontinent, from southern curries to northern tandoori. The Tantra appetizer platter melds flavors seamlessly: sweet-and-sour potato salad tempers the heat of green chicken tikka, and tender salmon contrasts nicely with a crunchy tofu and spinach samosa. For an entree, try a rich Kashmiri lamb curry or a delicate shrimp coconut curry--both are downright delicious. Entree portions are small, so round out the meal with vegetables--either the roasted eggplant tossed in a robust onion-tomato sauce, or stir-fried vegetables spiced up with mustard seeds.

I was reluctant to return to Tantra after the restaurant sold last year, but I finally went in a few weeks ago and was completely disappointed! The restaurant is not at all the same place that it used to be. The food is nearly inedible – I ordered one of my favorites, the catfish, and what I got didn’t look anything like what I expected and it tasted even worse. Worst of all, the catfish was chewy and flavorless. Don’t even get me started on the condition of the restaurant…the dining room was hot, the menus were covered with food stains, and most of the wine selections offered on the menu were unavailable. It was a horrible experience but at least now I know never to go back. How sad, the one Indian restaurant that could be counted on for great, consistent food, cleanliness, and ambiance, is now the worst place ever!!!
Pros: Beautiful Decor
Cons: Awful Food, Overpriced, Bad Ambiance

About three weeks ago my fiance and i decided to try a new indian restaurant with some friends of ours. given the time 11:30 in the evening, we figured it couldnt be that bad i mean there were only one other party of four sitting behind us in the whole restaurant. So, the rude waitress comes up to take our orders and started getting fustrated whenwe started asking questions about the food. we should of ran out at that point but figured we would skip the fact that she had absolutely no knowledge of what was being served at the establishment she called work.. (wtf) our food arrives after thirty min. and all i could say is... i have been to other awesome indian restaurants and this one.. i just will never go back. not to mention my two friends that joined us instantly got bad stomache aches witin twenty min of eating their food. So if you want an expensive bill for bad service, below rated indian food and possible food sickness.. tantra is the spot. Oh i must admit the ambiance is awesome. i just think they need to work more on their food and their service becuase thats ultimately what brings people back.
Pros: Beautiful establishment
Cons: everything else thats important like the Food and Service.... Terrible. oh yeah & expensive
