huge category room, not recommend hotel, great restaurant staff, great bars, poor room service, pricey bar drinks, good food

Pricey food and drinks but the rooftop bar is phenomenal and a must-see LA experience. Summer time they have pool parties where you can soak in the sun.
Downtown hotel and party spot famous for its rooftop views and dress-to-impress clientele is also home cooking turf to "Top Chef: Seattle" contestant Micah Fields.
Pretentious bouncers but very strong drinks. i went on a Thursday night with a group of about 30 or so people and the overly pretentious bouncers wouldn't let us up to the rooftop bar. It was clear that the only people getting in were guys that came with a lot of girls or blondes with huge breasts. They claimed they were only admitting hotel guests but there was even a poor girl there that was staying at the hotel, celebrating her birthday and they wouldn't let her or her party in either. The lobby was really cool and ultra modern. The DJ was excellent and the drinks, though overpriced, were very strong and good. The bathrooms in the lobby were not clean at all and was very disappointing due to the assumed high reputation of the venue. All in all, I probably will not visit this place again. I just don't understand how bouncers are stupid enough to deny entry to 30 people who were all ready to spend large amounts of money on alcohol. Then the idiotic bouncers told everyone that as long as there was a 1:1 girl to guy ratio they could get in. Then they changed their minds and said there was 4:3 girl to guy ratio. We clearly had enough people. It became clear that they must not have liked our "look" or something because they did not let us in under any circumstances. We ended up leaving and didn't turn back. If you want to go to The Standard, I would suggest the one in Hollywood. No d-bag bouncers there.
My Saturday Night. We arrive around 9 to beat the line and it paid off, we were a party of about 10 girls and 3 guys and they made sure we all were allowed in, the guys infront of us weren't due to capacity. The view is very nice, very nice lounges, decent girl to guy ratio. My only complaint was the Dance floor/DJ's choice of music all night and the volume of the music. But we have a good time regardless, it felt like a place you'd take a date for drinks but still a lot of single girls walking around. I'd give it a 8/10 and probably will visit again.
Sunday nights. The best thing about this place is the roof top view and pool. I've gone on Sunday nights when there is not a huge crowd. I've heard trying to get in on Friday and Saturday nights is near impossible. The drinks are on the $$$ side, but its a nice spot to take a date for after dinner drinks. (Sunday only). I hear you spot a lot of celebrities on Monday nights. I would suggest calling head, becuase sometimes they close the roof top bar for private parties, or hotel guest only.
finally got to stay. The rooftop bar is my favorite place to party in LA. I've been there quite a few times and I finally got to stay at the hotel last weekend. When I was on their website booking the room, I found the promo code "summer" for a free upgrade and got to stay in a really nice room for the weekend.
Barber Shop in the Standard Hotel. Worst experience ever. Avoid the grouchy young female stylist with tattoos everywhere at all cost. She became irritated with me when I explained to her what I wanted. It was as if I was bothering her for being there. I'm a student living in downtown and this place would have been very convenient for my haircuts. No way I'm stepping in there again. I feel this reflects poorly on the Standard Hotel as well and therefore I am writing this review under the hotel itself.
Thinking of Dinner & Dancing at The Standard? DON'T GO! Here's why...(unless you're underage, shhhh!).

Maybe it's drunk food? You know the food that only tastes decent when you've had more than a few drinks, and you just want something to coat your stomach. Our mistake was--we were sober! Without a doubt I knew that food was horrible. I don't know who the chef is at 11p, but definitley don't get a CHICKEN CESAR SALAD, or CHICKEN CLUB SANDWICH. Whoever prepared that meal was probably going through the fridge and decided to clean out the food that was near to spoil. The result...limp, tasteless chicken on soggy "sour"dough bread. Let's not even discuss the tap water that comes in a recycled glass bottle! You might've fooled me if you actually opened a new bottle in front of me...but no. As for the service, none of the employees seem happy about their job, so they were slow and not accommodating to our needs when we complained. They were all just waiting for closing time, or a big tip.
So after our meal, we decide to go upstairs for some music and drinks. Even if you dine in the crappy restaurant, you're still going to have to go back outside to wait in line for the upstairs bar. What? Let's say there's no line outside, then you should be okay right? That is, after your hostess for the evening finishes prancing around on a friend's iPod for a minute or so. She never acknowledged my friend and I, though she made eye contact with us several times. Another group approached and slipped her a folded $100 bill, and she admitted them all in without question. So we were back to standing around by ourselves waiting for someone to explain why we hadn't been given an explanation. She continued to ignore us. My friend prodded, and she later explained they were currently full. Unless you give the hostess a crisp new $bill, yep...they're full and you're a nobody.
UNDERAGE DRINKING? YEP!
Lastly, and you'll love this. My same friend dined there only a week ago with his 18 y/o girlfriend and her 17 y/o sister. They enjoyed wine and beer in the restaurant. NO ID NEEDED!
The Downtown Standard is disgusting!!!!.
This hotel is beyond disgusting! I stayed here for business and it seems that the hotel only cares about the club-goers. The customer Service was horrible, the valet guys were very unprofessional and wouldn't let us park in the lot and we were hotel guests! The parking attendant told us the lot was full and would not let us pass, we told him we were staying at the hotel and he said "sorry, it's full" we turned around and headed out and a group of people in car who were going to the club on the roof were let in to park. We went back and said we saw you let the people in so then he let us go. There was a ton of parking in the structure and someone told us they do that because the club people are going in and out and it's a way for them to make more money. They were very rude and did not care that we were hotel guests.
When I arrived to my room, the floor was disgusting! Food or salsa looking sauce on the carpet. The grey blanket looked like a jail blanket. The vibe was disgusting.... The showers are made of glass and if you are sharing a room with someone they can see everything.. we asked for them to put a sheet up on the glass so the other person couldn't see in, a maintenance guy came, said he would be back and never came back to fix it. I can go on and on about complaints for this hotel that our business group experienced but unfortunately I only have 600 characters remaining for me to use. I would not recommend this hotel, they are not concerned with customer service, and it seems they are only concerned with the pretentious club-goers on the roof top... By the way, we were over charged by over $1,400.00 and it is extremely hard to get someone to contact u back and willing to help..I finally got refunded, our stay was in June.. This place is scummy!!!!
Cheesy, wanna-be club scene vibe. Regarding the bar in the Standard, this pretentious establishment might be an okay place to take out-of-towners who have never been to L.A. The crowd is early twenties, cheesy... lots of shiny shirts and cologne. The unisex bathrooms are gross and wierd. The one redeeming quality of this bar is that it is on the rooftop & you get a nice view. There is a rooftop pool that is open during the day, but it gets crowded with left-over drunks from the previous night on Saturday and Sunday. Go once, so you can tell everyone you've been there and how annoying it was.
All name, no substance. The bar is cool, staying at the hotel is not.... read on if you are considering it.. I was staying here for 3 nights on business. I felt like I needed to shower after walking from the elevator to my room. For 2 days there was food thrown all over the hallways that I had to step over to get to my room. That's in addition to the hallway smelling of beer and urine. I informed the reception desk twice about the mess before it was taken care of. The room looked cool, and contemporary if you didn't look too closely. The blanket on the bed smelled, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls and the shower pressure was slightly stronger than a drip. There were no tissues in the bathroom, and one of our lights didn't work. In the middle of the night there were multiple heards of drunk, stoned people yelling in the hallways that woke me up several times. Wake up calls came 20 minutes late, and my credit card was billed incorrectly for the stay. $662 extra incorrectly! When asking the concierge about going out for dinner, she wouldn't accept that we wanted to go to Santa Monica or West Hollywood, and kept insisting that we go to Pasedena, where she's from. When I expressed thats not where we want to go, she claimed to not know any restaurants except for Pasedena. The hotel bar / pool is cool, but listen, you don't have to stay at this dump to go there, infact if it is a pleasent hotel experience you are looking for, I would suggest not staying here. It's all name and very little attention to the customer. I think these reviews are very important to keep businesses honest about their services. I frequent a lot of hotels becuase of my work, and I am in customer service. I was very disspointed in my experience here. I hope the one they are building in New York will have more attention to detail.
anyone else amused that this is deemed a budget hotel by editors of citysearch?. I don't know...when I think of budget hotels, I think cheap. I think not-the-comfiest. I don't think upscale, ritzy, charge you up the wazzoo hotels whose only similarity to a budget is the fact that they self-identify as "the standard." Not that you shouldn't stay here. The rooms are artful and creatively designed. The bar on the roof is a definite scene. The drinks are tasty and the pool is warm. But budget? Let's get real...
