Editorial Review for Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee – by Lowell Goodman

In Short
This no-frills video store could easily pass for a cinephile's basement. Tapes are stacked ceiling-high on long wooden shelves, loosely categorized as movies, TV shows or documentaries. The resulting atmosphere is less chaotic than you might expect, attracting customers in search of specific titles as well as browsers who happily lose themselves in the wondrous collection. No matter where you fit in, the friendly, knowledgeable staff is happy to offer recommendations.

Look, Eddie's is a family run, LA kind of place. Mind your manners and there won't be any problems. I've been going since 1987 and have nothing but respect for the people who work there, their knowledge and helpfulness has always impressed me. If they don't have it, they'll find it. They go out of their way on a regular basis. All the studios have accounts there, they must be doing something right.

Pros: Selection, assistance, sometimes free doughnuts

Cons: Tight parking

2 Star Rating: Below Average

FOR OVER 3 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO ORDER A SELECTION OF MOVIES FROM EDDIE BRANDT'S. FOR OVER 3 MONTHS THEY HAVE BEEN TELLING ME ... YOUR ORDER HAS BEEN SHIPPED, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR ORDER BY FRIDAY, YOUR ORDER WILL BE SHIPPED ON FRIDAY, WE HAVE BEEN TOO BUSY TO SHIP YOUR ORDER, ETC. ETC. ETC. THEY HAD NO PROBLEM IN TAKING MY CREDIT CARD PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE, BUT GETTING MY MOVIES HAS BEEN SOMETHING ELSE. WHEN YOU CALL THE STORE, THEY ARE ALWAYS TOO BUSY TO TALK TO YOU ON THE PHONE ..... WE ARE HELPING CUSTOMERS. WE HAVE TO CALL YOU BACK. THEN WHEN YOU TRY TO CALL THEM BACK, THE STORE IS CLOSED. THEY ARE ALWAYS HELPING CUSTOMERS, BUT WHAT AM I? CHOPPED LIVER??? I AM A CUSTOMER TOO ..... I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER (THEY ALREADY TOOK MY CREDIT CARD PAYMENT). I SHOULD HAVE THE SAME RESPECT AS ANY OTHER PAYING CUSTOMER. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE. THEY HAVE MY MONEY AND MY MOVIES.
