Relocated from its old location near downtown and Dodger Stadium, this down-home eatery is big on barbecue--and meaty sandwiches and beefy burgers.

Editor's Tips

On the Menu:
While the focus is on barbecue--the tri-tip is a popular favorite--many patrons swear by the jumbo-sized burgers.

  1. I've learned ORDER AHEAD and get it TO GO so i can enjoy it in the comfort of my own home with a nice glass of red wine.
food quality

  1. the service can be a little slow, but remember: you're ordering meat out of an old auto garage; they treat your meal like a seasoned auto-mechanic would a tune-up.
  2. The burger is a wopping 1 bl, but it is so delicious with a good grilled smoky flavor.
  3. The hamburgers are huge and delicious.
  4. But its sad that the customer service is ridiculous (i.e. wrong orders, rude drivers, etc...) When I want bbq i kinda question do i REALLY want to go thru the hassle of putting up a fight and trying to order my food and hoping they get it right.
  5. the sauce however, is amazing.
  6. admittedly, it's not an impressive structure and the service could be better, but the food makes up for it!
  7. The chicken was undercooked, the beef was overcooked, and I have no idea what the link was made of but it was mushy & had a bad flavor.
  8. The sauce was good but it can't disguise what isn't good.
  9. You get HUGE portions, tender and perfectly seasoned meat, and the sauce alone is worth the trip.
  10. the bbq is really good.
  11. Born and raised in Texas, I can tell you that this place does not serve authentic Texas barbeque.
  12. Service is a little slow, but the food should make up for it.
  13. freakin awesome la food
  14. Don't get me wrong, I love Dodger Dogs but nothing beats the 1 lb burger at Texas BBQ King.
  15. It's too bad because the food is good.
  16. Amazing burgers!
  17. best meat in los angeles
  18. The cookers are unsightly, but the food is excellent.
  19. recently had them cater a party for 70 and got nothing but compliments on the delicious bbq.
  20. The barbecue here is pretty good but take it from a real Texan-- the bbq here is not real Texas bbq.
  21. The best BBQ sauce I've had outside Memphis, and every piece of meat is fantastic: 3 kinds of ribs, chicken, tri-tip, hot links!
  22. Their tri-tip is a local favorite: tender and swimming in bbq sauce with some garlic mixed in.
  23. I've been eating the pork ribs and sliced pork sandwich there for at least five years and never had a bad meal.
  24. The fries are good too!
  25. Especially when you know that the food here is amazing and if any other place could have took them down it would have happened a long time ago.
  26. The best value is the burger.
  27. good variety on menu with decent price is the food was done right.
  28. The banana pudding with vanilla wafers is very tasty too.
  29. Number 1 the Baby Back Ribs are delicious and the sauce (which they sell in bottles to go) is possibly the sweetest tastiest i ever had.
  30. Who knew the best bbq place would be Downtown!
  31. Also very tasty are their seasoned fries: soft on the inside with a crispy outside, and 100% tasty.
  32. the pork ribs are great!
  33. There is nothing on the menu that could be called a vegetable, but the french fries are delicious and so are the baked beans.
  34. wished that I could order a half of a pound burger.
  35. best burgers too!
  36. Got the Dinner Sampler (bigger than Lunch Sampler) consist of dry chicken, decent spicy susage that has a texture of a meatloaf, ok beef ribs.
  37. love the 1lb burger they serve.
  38. read through the other reviews first, and I completely concur with these being the biggest, best burgers in Los Angeles!
  39. The meat is so big, it dwarfs the bun.
  40. If it were still there, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who's down for some great bbq without the monster size tip.

New location on 7th & Grand and Woodland Hills!!!

by MistaPerkins

Okay, lets get real.....

This man has single-handedly held down the BBQ game in LA for years now.

I hear too many people claiming that their BBQ is better and ya-de-ya.

If you really want some serious BBQ there's no other option in LA!

As far as reviews go, always beware of other BBQ places trying to pose as customers or yelpers.

It's lame.

Especially when you know that the food here is amazing and if any other place could have took them down it would have happened a long time ago.

This guy has created a landmark Downtown that was removed by bureaucratic BS and fought his way back Downtown to open a new location.

Hey...No one respects a restaurant.... but everyone respects the food.

1 up

  • Pros: The best BBQ & sides in LA!!!
  • Cons: Don't talk when your mouth is full.

Best BBQ in Town.... BUT>>>>>>

by clinstorage

WHERE DID IT GO?????

I wanted to eat some bbq today and drove by the place. It's not there anymore!!!!!! The building was demolished and the plot taken over by developers!

If it were still there, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who's down for some great bbq without the monster size tip. Their tri-tip is a local favorite: tender and swimming in bbq sauce with some garlic mixed in. Also very tasty are their seasoned fries: soft on the inside with a crispy outside, and 100% tasty.

Service is a little slow, but the food should make up for it. You should not expect cleanliness in the dining area. It is an outdoor dining area, there are pigeons walking around, and it is/was in the middle of downtown LA, so air pollution and dust can be expected. You can always order to go.

If anyone knows where BBQ King went, update this information please!

  • Pros: They don't skimp on the bbq sauce.
  • Cons: Parking

Food = Excellent; Service = Well....

This is my favorite BBQ spot in L.A. hands down. Having grown up in los angeles and lived down the street from Philip's, tried Woody's, and cried when Leo's closed I am so happy I found this place! Who knew the best bbq place would be Downtown!! You get HUGE portions, tender and perfectly seasoned meat, and the sauce alone is worth the trip. But its sad that the customer service is ridiculous (i.e. wrong orders, rude drivers, etc...) When I want bbq i kinda question do i REALLY want to go thru the hassle of putting up a fight and trying to order my food and hoping they get it right. But when i go ahead and go thru all the drama and finally get my food it was actually worth it.

  • Pros: The sauce, meat, and portions
  • Cons: Customer Service

Sweet BBQ and sour service.

by daveiscool

The food was OK and I truly think I would have enjoyed it better if not for the service. I was told to, "look at the menu" when I asked a question, waited a full 30 minuits untill my order was ready and the order was wrong though I was charged for the missing items. My coworkers and I had to share what we got because we couldn't wait another half hour for the food to be prepared. The facility had so much smoke that it made people cough at times. For the price I paid I expected much more food, better service, and a better dinning enviroment. I now frequent a BBQ joint down the street.

  • Pros: I didn't get sick
  • Cons: Service, price, wait time, amount of food, smokey

Just came back from my first visit..the pork ribs are great! Each rib had so much meat. The sides are ok, the corn bread eh....either way, I am most def going for the ribs. I asked for the burger but was told that it would be a 25 min wait...I will call in my order next time. Meat so good.

  • Pros: Meat and bbq sauce was goooooood
  • Cons: cash only.
