What People Are Saying About The Hotel Cafe

The Scene – Arrive early to score one of the too-close-together rickety tables, a la a Parisian cafe. Otherwise, you'll end up standing three rows deep behind the seating area. Attention is always focused on the small stage, where talented local singer-songwriters--and occasionally notable names like Swedish sensation Jose Gonzalez--share their musical vision. The cappuccino bar of the establishment's early days has evolved into a full liquor license, but there is still typical cafe fare to nibble on. – – The Draw – There aren't many places in Hollywood where one will…

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
People come here to appreciate quality music, so if you need to have a long conversation during the set, do it outside. Discreet asides to your neighbors are usually fine, though.
ambiance
86.66999816894531% positive
  1. The music is hitt or miss, thanks to being an indi kinda place, but the atmosphere is cool and dark.
  2. The decor and vibe of the place is amazing and everyone who whines about he parking or the people standing next to them during the artists' performance should bite it, because that has absolutely nothing to do with the venue itself.
  3. the location is great.
  4. What matters is that whatever night you end up here, you'll find at least one great performer, tasty panini and brownies, and a comfortable, casual crowd.
  5. Prices are good but the experience is ruined with pooly made, weak drinks, a drab decor plus a Doorman and Bartendar that are full of attitude.

  1. The crowd is real, entrance is in the alley, drinks are good and they serve food( but never tried it).
  2. Prices are good but the experience is ruined with pooly made, weak drinks, a drab decor plus a Doorman and Bartendar that are full of attitude.
  3. both bars serve full liquor, beer and wine and decent (but limited) food?

  1. This is a good place for a group.
  2. still, the venue is a great place to listen to live music.
  3. But if you want great acoustic music without pretense and attitude, the Hotel is the place for you.
  4. ve been lucky enough to catch some of the best music LA has to offer in this little place.
  5. This is a great, "chill" little place, tucked away amidst the mayhem of the famous "Cahuenga corridor.

  1. The music here is amazing, and everytime I've gone, the people who work here have been beyond pleasant.

A Place to Avoid

by muttsymutt

We ordered four tickets online ($25 apiece) one week before Mary Fahl's appearance. When we got there over an hour early, the tables had all been taken except for two that were "reserved" for somebody, perhaps some friends of the owners. How does paying a week in advance not count as reserved? Anyhow, there were no bar stools or even chairs. Someone working for the club brought out two extra chairs but this still left dozens of people standing for the two-hour set. Potential patrons should also note that the owners try hard to manage reviews; I tried to post one on their Google site and it got taken down immediately. Also, I have noted the writing similarities in the unusual number of supposedly rave reviews that appear on this and other sites.

Cozy place to see your favorite musicians

by LaMaria

Get there early unless you want to be standing in the back. However, no matter where you are, if you are there to see one of your favorite artists it doesn't matter where you are in this small venue because you will be pretty close to the action. We saw Patrick Watson there and it was increeeeeible!!

  • Pros: Talented artists, intimate
  • Cons: Not enough tables

START YOUR NIGHT HERE WITH VELVET NIGHTLIFE

by scott123

Velvet Nightlife is a web-site that allows you to tell Nightclubs in Hollywood what you are willing to spend for table service. The web-site works with club owners to help them reduce the amount of excess inventory that they have every night. It is not uncommon for a customer to be able to get VIP bottle service at many of Hollywood’s hottest clubs for a fraction of the normal cost. I got a table with two bottles of Belvedere for $400 including tax and gratuity.

Best in town

by shawnking33

This place is one of my fave spots in LA. I check out their online calendar once a month and usually check out 2-3 shows. The crowd is real, entrance is in the alley, drinks are good and they serve food( but never tried it). Best part: the music really represents the soul of LA. Cool place
