Best Thai Food around – This is place has the best thai food I have ever tasted. Not only that but the service is great. The restaurant also has live performance every weekend. I recommend you call ahead of time and make reservations because the place does get full. I come here all the time so I know most of the deals. They also have a bar and my favorite is the happy hour from 10- close which is buy 1 get one free. I recommend LA Water mixed drink. Overall this is good place to come eat with the family or with couple friends and just have a good time.

Best overall dining experience – This is my first review!! woot!

First i have to say "wow!"

I went to Nogales High School, so Banana Bay (B-bay!) was a known spot. I used to go there all the time with my friends because they were open late had great food and the prices were unbelievably low. It seems like they have new ownership in the last couple of years, the quality of the food and drinks definately exceeds what it was when i was in high school (graduated '01).

I can recommend two dishes.... King Noodle and Crying Tiger. The noodles in the King Noodle were perfectly cooked and the sauce amazing. Crying Tiger is seared Rib Eye I think, a little bit spicy and simply fantastic.

Their Thai tea with Boba is some of the best around and their blended Coconut Drinks (made with fresh young coconut) are the best i've ever had.

Their dishes are always very well balanced for flavor and spice, but if you want it spicy, they will take care of you!!!

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! – Banana Bay has to be one of my favorite places to eat now. The first thing I was impressed by was the beautiful ambience accompanied by a wonderful live band playing. The next best thing was how friendly and attentive our server was. And to top that off.......the food was incredibly delicous!!!!!!!!! Everything was cooked to perfection and had just the right flavor! The food was like the icing on the cake :) I highly recomend Banana Bay to anyone that appreciates great food and a great place to enjoy eating it!

Best Thai Restauant Around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – Banana Bay Restaurant is some of the best food i have ever had. I loved it so much that i have gone back whenever i am in the area. I highly recomend this place to anyone that likes Thai food, or has'nt had Thai food before. The Pad Thai is second to none!!!!! Very friendly staff, and the even have a stage with a live band playing, along with a huge flat screen tv to watch sports and have drinks. Banana Bay is the only place I will go for Thai food from now on!!!!

Thai food is celebrated as a fun engagement at this late-night hot spot. – The Scene
The lights may be dim, but the energy at Banana Bay is as vibrant as this Thai restaurant's sunny yellow walls. Colorful sand and seashells that fill the glass tanks lining the walls are another playful touch. The outgoing atmosphere draws big groups of young locals on any given party night, which seems to be every night at the restaurant. So raised is the volume at every table that the Elvis impersonator or jazz band on stage is mere background noise. Add in multiple flat-screen TVs around the room and it makes for fantastic entertainment.

The Food
Large portions are piled and served on colorful plates because here, quality is matched with quantity. Presented with unusually large spoons, it may be suggested that meals are to be shared family style-but most people don't. On the menu there are a few fusion dishes, but most people go for the traditional Thai cuisine. Noodle plates Pad See Ew and Pad Thai are popular picks, both with their own signature sweet sauces. However, regulars have their undiscovered favorites-whether it may be Chicken Mint Leaves or the Exotic Fried Rice. Everyone agrees on dessert though: it is Mango with Sticky Rice, and the largest of its kind.

Fun atmosphere – I come here mostly for the pineapple fried rice and chrysanthemum tea, both of which I could get anywhere else, but I also come for the fun atmosphere and decor. The live music is always good, and people actually clap after each song (I hate when musicians finish playing and people just ignore them). From my experience, the service has been more slow than anything, but I attributed that to how busy the restaurant usually is.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! – Such a great place!!! Ive been going to this place for years and ive never seen this place in such great shape! This place was packed, because it was during happy hour, but we were seated right away. We ordered our drinks from the new happy hour menu and the drinks were just great!!!! I go to clubs a lot and i know drinking and alcohol and i had a Long Island and it was the best Long Island i have ever had!!! I couldnt believe that it was a Long Island, it was soooooooooo good!!!! The food came out right away and was great as well and of course oh so cheap. Where else can you get good cheap food and a great happy hour! And as for the entertainment... They usually have sports playing on the tv's and some great music playing and on certain nights they have a live band, which used to play some old school music that was like whatever. kinda like a okay wedding band but i guess recently they added a girl to the band and i was pretty amazed! she was singing some new songs and she was pretty good too! i was just in awe with banana bay! sometimes places do have bad days so dont be mad at me if you get one of thoses =P! you can try to avoid the weekends cause it gets really packed but sometimes its the best on the weekends =)

Decent Food, Bad Rating, Bad Service – So I've been going to this place with friends for quite a while now (korean friends, mexican friends, laotian friends) and we've all come to the same conclusion:

Food is good (Im middle eastern) and we all have our own thing. I like the spicy beef plate or thai jerky, gf like chicken and rice plate or something with noodles in it, friends like seafood plates, etc. The point is, there is a lot of food to choose from and a good ice tea float to boot.

Decent prices considering you cant find a decent meal today without paying at least 7 dollars (I mean you end up paying 5-8 dollars at subway when the plates here can run as low as 5 dollars)

Service- Not so good but one time we got a waiter who seemed like he was new and he was really nice, their faces light up and their goodbyes sound nicer after they see a nice tip =P

Otherwise service is whatever, usually you go to a restaurant and because the waiters/waitresses make tips they at least PRETEND to be nice but here they just seem to wanna get over with your order (either that or they dont like to speak english)

The rating for the place on the window is a C which is kinda bad since I believe that is a an overall rating including health and sanitation.

Nice environment on weekends with a band.

Conclusion:

If youre just there to grab some food and you dont care what rating they got or how the service is or when the next time you'll get a refill will be, its great. =)

Hello,

Thank you for your review of Banana Bay Restaurant!

I want to first apologize about your experience with the service at Banana Bay. I'm actually having a meeting tonight about this very topic. It's going to take some time, but I am doing my best to correct this problem.

As far as the Health Rating, we currently had our routine inspection (finally) and scored an "A grade." We had a problem with our refridgeration before and that is why we received the "C" grade. Now everything is more than up to standards with health.

If you get a chance to stop by Banana Bay again, please ask for Jim or if I'm not there, Chin.

Thank you very much! I look forward to meeting you.

Jim

The only thai restaurant place I will go. – The only Thia restaurant I would go in Southern California because I am from northern California. They have the best Thai beef noodle soup I ever have. The soup have a hint of spiciness and the aroma of the flavors are just awesome. Parking space is a breeze to find because it sits right in a plaza filled with parking. The place can be pack, filled with people who are hungry for the greatest Thai food, in a little upscale style.
