Clear Lounge offers great cocktails, friendly bartenders, a happening scene and excellent DJs. A modern cocktail lounge located on the south end of Ventura Blvd, Clear is quickly redefining what it means to be hip in the valley. The design speaks to a cozy minimalist feel, while avoiding the unfriendly black box club that is so frequent in LA. Clear has been described as "an intimate lounge that is palpably sexy."The main room features white padded vinyl walls, curved couches that span the length of the room on the right side, and a mahogany bar with clear stools. Just outside the main room…
Editor's Tips
- Look Good:
- Nearby Sapphire offers similar decor, but with a darker, more lounge-like vibe. Be prepared for a wait on busy nights.
- Know Before You Go:
- Arrive early to chat up club owner Bryan, who concocts better mojitos than the bartenders--and does so from scratch--but only for special customers. Bring your own mint: It's available down the street at Trader Joe's.
- The Extras:
- The club's increasing popularity attracts higher-caliber DJs and has also turned it into a happening pickup spot.

Beautiful Venue, Terrible Management
by jonnayuh at Citysearch
Page 71 is a beautiful place, but my experience here was a disaster....I booked my 30th birthday party here due to a recommendation from a friend. I called the manager Caleb 4 weekend prior and told him that we'd be bringing in approximately 75 people for the occasion. He told me the venue could get tight, but they could handle it. We then discussed dress code, the cake, girls vs. guys ratio and so on. I even offered to put a deposit down on our bottle service, but he declined stating that we could handle that the night of my birthday...After our 4 conversations leading up to the party, with him constantly reiterating the rules of the dress code & how he didn't want too many men in the venue at one time, no stone was left unturned, or so I thought...
The night had finally arrived and my family and friends were all in attendance. He advised us to get there early for them to ensure entry into the lounge and we all gladly oblidged, and approximately 50 people were there by 9:45. The night was going smoothly, but the music was horrendous so several people approached the DJ booth to request a different genre of music, namely Hip Hop or R&B. They were all oddly turned away by Caleb stating that "that type of music won't be played tonite, and for us to just deal with it!" Well...surely, he'll change his mind if I ask him right?
So I too approached Caleb and asked if we could get something, ANYTHING other than the terrible indie house music played. We were all RUDELY shot down with excuses like " We only play music like that on Saturdays." and "We want to keep a certain image." He even went as far as to jump on top of the bar & flag down the DJ to change the song when he began to play Michael Jackson!
Seriously... I brought 50 people to your venue (before 10:00pm) & you can't give me the courtesy of sprinkling a little top 40 in the mix..Furthermore, what would it matter if you don't normally play it on Friday's as the majority of the people in the lounge would like to hear it, what difference does one night make. Especially since he totally failed to mention this little rule of his to me the previous 4 times we spoke.
Here's my theory on things.... Caleb knew that my party would be predominately African American from day one. Hence, the constant reminding of dress code, and guys vs. girl ratio. He even had someone from his establishment contact a mutual friend to make SURE we followed the rules. Funny thing about that is, I seen a Caucasian man enter the lounge a few seconds before me with the dirtiest sneakers and most wrinkled t-shirt ever.
Instead of him telling me he did not wish to host my party due to his ignorant preconceived notions regarding people of color, he went along with it and decided that if he wanted to bail out at anytime, he'd do things such as make the DJ play terrible music, and not take a deposit on the bottle service so I couldn't hold him to any commitments.
Well, he lost out that night because when I saw I was not receiving the service I deserved, I walked out the lounge without getting bottle service, taking my party of 50 with me. The only people left in the establishment were 6 employees, a table of 8, and two crickets...
We gladly went over to Cafe Entourage and had an amazing time, with bottle service at a bigger BETTER venue, with great service and music, but the fact that I had to change venues midway through my party is absurd.
Bottom line, I absolutely would not recommend this establishment to people of color as long as it remains under current management.
Anyone who thinks that African Americans and Latinos don't own irons, collared shirts, or shoes other than sneakers should not be running a business.
