regae should be loved, this includes staff... Well, the DJ's were good.(3/26/08) sound system, solid. The bar staff sucked and the door men were Harsh. I find it hard to beleive that Smacka is still soo tough. what ever happend to going out & not being so harped apon. I liked the decor, but the lack of care made it hard to care for the staff. I pride myself on being a good patrion, but this place made it difficult to givre back. hope I have a better time time next time, I may give it a try. Good luck yall.

Not what these reviews are cracking it up to be. I've tried Zanzibar on a thursday, friday, and saturday night and really don't see what peeps are talking about. The drinks aren't special and I thought they were slightly over priced in regard to the venue where I was at. The girls that frequent this place aren't pretty. At best this bar is a just a "nice change of pace" because it's different from everything else in santa monica.

Best waitress I've ever had, $2 shots. I came here on Thursday night for Afro Funke, which has really great music and the vibe is very chill...you feel more like you're at a cool private party. I came again on Saturday, which is hip hop dance music and VERY crowded, but everyone dances. The waitress, a pretty girl named Tyler, remembered me from Thursday night and shook my hand and said that she was glad to have me back. No one has ever remembered me like that - especially at a club! If you like big crazy crowds, come Saturday. If you like to chill out and listen to great music then come Thursday. Peace.

Great DJ's, Small Place, No line, Close Parking. No line. $10 cover on Friday. Place doesn't start getting packed until 11:30. Diverse crowd. A handful of cute girls. Strongest Drinks Ever!!!! Good too!!! Bartender's nice and took care of me all night. True no place to sit. Small Dance floor. Ambience average. 25ish crowd. Definitely a spot to check out. Just show up later in the evening.

A Moroccan-themed makeover and dynamic DJs have spiced up this former Santa Monica dive bar.. In Short
Despite its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Zanzibar is anything but your typical beach bar. The owners, who also operate the nearby Temple Bar, have transformed longtime watering hole, West End, into an exotic East African-themed dance club. The dimly lit, red brick and earth-hued interior sets a risque tone that carries over into the semi-private lounge areas with cozy couches. An intimate dance floor is framed by velvet curtains, an uplifted stage and a wraparound bar.

Cool place...go on Friday nights!. I hadn't been to Zanzibar since last year for a friend's birthday party. Some of my friends were in from out of town and I brought them here because I didn't want to deal with the Hollywood bullsh-t crowd and lines. We didn't wait long in line and security was actually cool (rare!) The waitress, some southern chick, was so hot and cool! She immediately came up to us smiling and was actually nice (rare again) and took care of us all night long. Dude I want her number! The music was cool...hip hop, but not all mainstream shit...some hits from back in the day.

Best on Tuesday NIght. I love Tuesday nights at Zanzibar! My coworkers and I went for a going away party. We work for a design firm, so we are pretty picky about our ambiance. I was hesitant at first, the exterior looks a little sketchy. But once inside, the decor is hip with a Moroccan touch. The music stole the show with the DJ spinning modern Arabesque beats. After a few drinks even my boss was dancing! Casbah night at Zanzibar rocks! We will definitely be back!

Great Place to Host a Party. Just hosted my bday party there this past Saturday and I have no complaints. We were let in promptly, met the manager and our waitress and were all set. Cute set up. The place has a really nice look and vibe to it. Ppl were cool. The dj played great music the whole night. The security were friendly, our waitress did disappear often, but she would check on us from time to time to make sure we had all the mixers and drinks we needed . Would definitely host a party there again!

Club so so. this club was average. i think the crowd was fairly diverse. the music was too old school for me. the crowd is good for 25 plus. you wouldnt find too many 21 year olds in the club. the atmosphere felt pretty safe, and that will prolly b the only plus in my book.
