great okay food, great service, great place, mediocre food, wonderful dining experience, bad service, great mixville bar

While service can be a little shoddy, this is still a fun placed to have a drink on the quiet side of Silver Lake. Great outdoor seating and beautiful architecture.

Nice bar/restaurant in Silverlake. You can make a good bet on the food here. The Paneer Pasta is very good and so are the hibiscus margaritas.
It's Still OK. This used to be my favorite neighborhood bar, but now several of the good old bartenders have left, and they just raised their drink prices a full $2. I used to love coming here because it was such a good value, but I feel like it's inching up to Hollywood prices now. It's still chill in vibe though, which is nice. I like the patio seating and I always run into other Silver Lakers here. Fun photobooth in back too!
Eat well, served bad. If you want a great meal but bad service go here! I thought it was great to book a reservation and STILL wait 20 minutes because the hostess had to greet her friends at the bar before seating us. Great calamari, bad bad bad service. It's like being in abusive relationship, because Silverlake just keeps on coming back.
No longer the place to go. To be honest, I used to love this place. I still think the bar is great and the atmosphere is very relaxed and hip. The restaurant, however, has turned to junk. I have eaten at Edendale close to 20 times. Over the past year, it has become progressively worse. Sunday brunch last October was less than average when my food was cold and I had to ask for coffee three times. Before the holidays, my boyfriend were sitting out on the patio for dinner and the heater went out. No big deal, right? Well, it took 20 minutes to get it replaced. That same night, we ordered our meals (the menu has totally changed and is about half of what it used to be) and the meals came before the salads. Then, I ordered a Pinot Noir with my steak and it arrived at the end of my meal. I had about given up on Edendale, but decided to give it one last try last night. Bad idea. My food was pretty good, but others at the table were very unhappy. The service was very average and the Manager was just "blah". It was no surprise that the dining room was empty. I hope they get thier act together and take it back to where it used to be. I just wont eat there until it gets fixed.
What happened to this place?. This place has gone so far downhill it doesn't seem possible to bring it back. The bartenders seem to be trying but don't look like they're having a good time and the place reeks of psychic suffering and a feeling like it's time to abandon the ship before it goes even more horribly wrong.
cool bar, horrible restaurant. They are so phenomenally rude at this restaurant, it's like a joke. I am eight months pregnant, it was a tuesday night at 9pm, and a colleague and I came in for a late dinner. The place was practically empty. After I had to beg the hostess to pay attention to me, and asked her to sit down for dinner, she rolled her eyes and said "it's gonna be a while." It was like I walked into her living room and took a dump on her sofa. Then we payed a lot for mediocre food. The bar is attractive and bumpin' but the restaurant is hell on earth. Avoid it!
Wildly inconsistant food and service..
I have eaten two meals at this restaurant in the same week. One was quite good and the other dreadful. The hostess was rude and made us wait 20 minutes for a table in an empty restaurant. Oddly, she felt compelled to take our name and then quickly forgot. Her attitude was that she was doing us a favor to sit us after 20 minutes of waiting in an empty restaurant. The quality of food of my first meal was excellent. I ordered the same meal last night, the meat was tough and overdone. We waited 40 minutes for our meal, again in an empty restaurant.
Unless you like this sort of experience, I suggest you find another restaurant.
Drinks Only, Eat Somewhere Else.... The Edendale Grill has all the makings of a great restaurant - historical location, beautiful bar, outdoor dining amist twinkling lights....and then... it all comes to a screeching halt. The food, the service, the experience - all so bad you'd think you were on hidden camera. You can't really blame the wait staff, management clearly doesn't hire enough servers for each shift. And you'd think for the amount of money they charge, they could afford some extra help. Service aside, at the heart of a great restaurant is the food - and the food here is surprisingly bad, I mean really bad, I'm talking - chef must be on craaack - bad. I live close so I find myself giving the place another try, always hoping it will get better. But it never does, it just seems to get worse. I can go to any other similarly ranged restaurant (i.e. Blairs across the street) and pay $35-40 for an entree that will come out delicious, hot, and as expected. At Endendale you're paying top price for slop - food with no care or thought put into it, thrown onto a plate and if you're luckly moderately warm. Save yourself the trouble - consider Edendale a watering hole only, and keep away from the food menu.
USED to love the place. Up until about a year ago I used to eat at Edendale about once a month, if not more. I liked the people, the food, and the atmosphere. Then one night I was having dinner with friends and our poor waitress was running herself ragged trying to serve several tables by herself...including one large party. I found out from her that the large party (who was being loud and obnoxious) was actually the owner having dinner (and not helping at all). We went back a couple times after that and the service didn't improve and the food quality declined. I asked around and found out that one of the original owners had sold off her share of the restaurant, leaving the other (she of the loud party) to run the place. And she's doing a lousy job. I love the building and bar so I hope that the place improves.
Awful food and service. The worst brunch I've had in Los Angeles. 5 of went for bruncj. After getting our menus, we ordered drinks. Twenty min. for drinks to arrive. The "Champagne" is Frexenet. When the food finally arrived, first two plates came, then after serveral minutes, two more plates came. After a bit the manager noticed that I still had no plate and he brought mine. What he put infront of me was an inexcusable mess and I have no idea how anyone working in a restaurant, especially a manager could deliver the plate with a straight face. My plate looked like it had been droped and thrown back together. I ordered the crabcakes bennedict. My plate had two crab cakes, next to one was a banged up looking poached egg. The other egg was busted up under one of the cakes and potatos. Both eggs had gummy over cooked yolks. The crab cakes were terrible, tasted like gummy bread, not like crab. Potatos were rubbery. I only took a second bite to confirm just how bad it was. My friend who ordered the same dish, didn't finish. Another fried ordered eggs bennidect w/o ham. One had ham, the other looked like the ham had been removed. Both had ham flavor. We told our waitress about the ham. she just sort of smiled and said that she had written "No Ham" on the ticket. I tried another friends bacon. I think if It had been cooked correctly it would have been good, seemed like good ingredients, unfortunately it was delivered room temp, limp and greasy. Through out the meal drinks were very slow to arrive and over all it was just plain bad. Two of us had ordered the "champagne" with refils, for $15. Once the check came we asked the busser for more wine. I saw the busser poing to us as he was telling the manager who was filling wine glasses two tables away, but he never bothered with us again. The manager did comp the bad meals, which was 3 out of 5 and some of the drinks, but it was stil a bad meal from every measure. I can't see any reason to return
Great patio, okay food. I live nearby, and actually go here a lot...but it's mostly for how close it is and the ambiance of the patio, not the food. The food is pretty much average, I'd say, and it would be nice if they expanded their menu a bit. On certain nights I've had issues with service (absent) as well, but other nights it's been great. Still, it's a beautiful place....just wish the food impressed me as much as the surroundings.
Bad service.
We had dinner on Saturday for my friend's birthday. She is a Silver Lake resident and a patron of the restaurant for many years and chose your place for her birthday. Our waiter was unavailable from the beginning and unaccommadating to our simple requests such as more water. Our food took longer to be served than our surrounding tables. Our server was unavailable to ask for new drinks or when will our food be here or whatever. Most of the food that was finally served was not completely satisfactory, the steaks were overcooked and cold.
Speaking of cold, we reserved a table on the patio with a heater for us. We had 4-5 people working on the heater to work, had them drag over a new heater to replace the one that didn't work and once they had it working... they dragged it so far from our table that most of us were shivering. We asked repeatedly to share the heater with us, the table that requested a working heater, to at least 4 staff members who all said they would help but only moved the heater an inch, which did not allow the heat to reach our table.
We spent over $300 for our dinner and don't understand how the level of service and food did not meet our expectations for what we paid, especially on my friend's birthday. This is someone that loves your restaurant and has definitely increased your business by word of mouth, but for the last year has not recommended it due to service issues and lack of quality in the food.
We wanted to be honest about our experience not to just complain, but to provide feedback from customers that want to return and would appreciate good service and good food the next time we return. We hope that our feedback helps.
