Editorial Review for Cheese Store of Silver Lake – by Lilla Zuckerman
The Scene
Tucked away in a crimson courtyard in uber-hip Sunset Junction, this foodie's heaven lends a little Beverly Hills gourmand status to an area known for vintage record stores and "Free Winona" T-shirts. But do not expect snobbery--entering this store looks and feels like pulling up a chair at a friend's kitchen counter. Ask the knowledgeable staff what they recommend, and try several cheeses before settling on a favorite.
The Goods
There are heaps of wonderful international cheeses helpfully labeled by what animal, be it goat, cow, or sheep, labored to produce such heavenly stuff. From sharp farmhouse cheddars to crisp Gruyère, to sinful triple creams, this place goes beyond the basics. There is also a variety of cured meat, salamis, olives, fig spreads, gourmet teas, and a small, reasonably priced selection of wine. Throw a bit of everything together for a killer hors d'oeuvres party.

i love this place not only b/c it's in my 'hood, but also b/c they are so friendly there. i know BH cheese probably has bigger selection but they are clear across town and parking is icky. the service here is good and they will let you try many things. there are also olives, gourmet olive oils, charcuterie, foie gras, small bread and crackers selection. weekends sometimes features wine tastings. small parking lot in back. it can get busy aroudn the holidays and weekend nights. don't plan to run in and run out.
Pros: good selection, friendly staff, parking lot
Cons: can be busy with long wait times

I don't know who helped you citygirl_la but I've always been treated quickly and very well by everyone, every time I go in. I've found the staff to be extremely knowledgable and helpful without any attitude. I like getting to try whatever cheeses I want or they recommend until I find what I'm looking for. Sometimes it's crazy busy on the weekends, but with a little patience and a taste of the wine they're pouring it's never a problem. I also love that the store's atmosphere feels a little rustic and European.
