Editorial Review for Carbon – by Patrick Green
The Scene
Carbon is a breath of fresh air for the fast-growing Westside scene. Located at a former neighborhood eyesore, Sloppy Joe's, this low-lit lounge has the funky feel of Hollywood hang, the Room, when it was "the" underground hot spot. The similarities aren't purely coincidental, considering Carbon's two owners were longtime Room employees. A narrow, hallway-like interior is flanked by a padded, steel-top bar and a mirrored back wall. Comfy couches conducive to conversation and shoulder shrugging occupy the middle, along with a tiny DJ area. Video monitors screening silent movies and a jukebox blaring with jams from Outkast to Barry White sit in front.
The Draw
The finest homegrown DJs spin a mad mix of hip-hop, electro, deep soul and retro rock. The old- to new-skool cuts, along with the affordable drinks and no cover charge, draw a young crowd of locals and Hollywood types.

Insider Tips
ParkingThe rear parking lot fills up quickly, but street parking is usually abundant after 7pm.
The ExtrasDrop off your mix tape at the bar. The owners are always looking for new talent to man the turntables.

It's truly a workout once you get inside it's hot as 'HELL", but if you came to dance like your suppose to in a club your good. . No dress code so it's not the "Hollywood" spot, No fakes. Now getting there early is not the issue, It's not packed till 11*00 11*30. Everyone working there is very chill. Drinks are very well made and cheap. Friday nights are hot, very live. My girls and I are there when we just can't decide what to do, but when ever I just want to go dance and have a good time this is it. I've been there Tuesdays and Saturday and always enjoy my nights.
Pros: Music is always good, crowd is always mixed.
Cons: Small inside and Hot.

This is a great chill place to go and enjoy the good selection of music. As soon as you enter you feel completely relaxed and ready to enjoy the night. It's a bit tight with space but it creates an intimate setting like typical New York bars. The dance floor is a small square but there is ample room for dancing, on or near the dance floor. The bartenders were cordial and attentive. The people there were incredibly diverse but by the end, though, there appeared to be more of a hip hop crowd on the dance floor, especially once the old school hip hop songs started playing. I loved it and definitely will go back there soon.
Pros: Ambience, Parking, Music, Lounge
Cons: Small
