Editorial Review for Toast Bakery Cafe – by Lilla Zuckerman
The Scene
Dozens of umbrella-shaded tables wrap around this large corner cafe. Diners bring their dogs, don designer shades and exchange industry gossip over cappuccinos. Inside, bronze-painted walls and high ceilings frame a glass display case lined with such artfully decorated goodies as pastel-frosted cupcakes, strawberry shortcakes and hulking sweet rolls.
The Food
Coffee jockeys are busy steaming up lattes, but the huge menu is the main draw. For breakfast, try the Oscar with scrambled eggs, sliced chicken, sharp cheddar and salsa piled over corn tortillas. For lunch, skip the too-rich corn chowder and carrot-ginger soups and get the chopped salad--with cubed tomatoes, mozzarella and garbanzos on a bed of crisp romaine, it's a refreshing meal in itself. The grilled chicken sandwich on a baguette with pesto is a snappier choice than the bland Chinese chicken wrap, which tastes only of standard soy-based dressing.

I have been coming here since they opened. This is when they had great service, a clean restaurant and stayed on top of their game. Now I eat at Toast few and far between because of the horrible slow inconsistent service, employees that you are unable to communicate with due to language barrier, but mainly because of the deplorable, disgusting, dirty, going down the hill fast condition that the restaurant is kept in. Yes, the food is average on most items and some entrees are quite yummy. But once you take a look around the sad state of what used to be an immaculate restaurant how can one eat the food not knowing what the kitchen looks like. Seriously, the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting! The walls all over the restaurant are knicked, food and drinks spilled, the couches need to be replaced, the furniture is knicked. The floors have a greasy slimy sticky feel when you walk. Well, it is always crowded and obviously some people don't mind the filth around them. But I would say in that nice area their are so many other restaurants on that street alone to visit. Hopefully, the owner will show up and take a long look around. Clean up your act toast and maybe you will get some of your regular customers back.
Pros: Food is consistent!
Cons: Bad service in complete filth!

Food is pretty good but always takes forever to get seated. The salads are great but the chicken is very bland. Place is filled with idiots though which is the main reason I haven't been here in months.
