Never Again – I have eaten many times at Gulfstream CC; however, the meal and service (especially the service) on Friday night convinced me never to go again. We had reservations and selected Friday because it is one of 2 nights that serve the Dover Sole. Forget the price, the service and attitude were all too much for our liking and hence never again. We waited an inordinate time for our meal to arrive which was cold. Dover Sole SHOULD NOT arrive late. It was overcooked and the sauce was not befitting the caliber. Never again.
Perfect date night for my husband and I – My husband and I went here for our date night (few and far between with the kids) about a year ago, and we find ourselves going back whenever we can. This is the seafood version on the Bandera restaurant on Wilshire. While we like the food at Bandera a little better, Gulfstream is a great change of the menu. Try the artichoke appetizer- we get it every time!
Fave Rest. in LA – My fave restaurant in LA. Amazing Seafood however I actually prefer the steak and fries. Def. the best fries I've ever had. Great place to celebrate a birthday dinner. The location is a plus too as its right at Century City Mall.
Greatest Seafood Restaurant in Century City – This is the greatest seafood restaurant in Century City. I have been to this restaurant many times for lunch and the service is always exceptional and the food is superb. The cedar plank salmon is fabulous, the scallops are large and expertly prepared, and the fresh fish specials are always delectable and typically served with an herb-butter sauce. I have tried all of their salads, and there isn't one I wouldn't recommend. My favorite is the grilled scallops salad, which includes baby beets, baby turnips, and baby carrots. I have taken clients to lunch and never been disappointed and can occasionally spot a movie/tv stars.
Excellent food and service!!! – My friends and I were at the AMC cineplex in Century City to catch a movie when we thought of where we should have dinner. Houston's was crowded, so we headed over to Gulfstream. It was a wise choice. From the time we were seated, the service was wonderful. The server came right to our table, with a bright smile and introduced herself. The food (I had the Hawaiian Rib Eye, medium-well with a baked potato as a side) was very well prepared and the server was very attentive to our beverage refill needs. The ambience was just right, not too loud and not too quiet. The next time I'm in Century City, Gulfstream will definitely be at the top of my list once again.
Gulfstream Knows What You Want Better Than You Do – I work in Century City so I have patronized Gulf Stream many times, probably at least 20. Although the food is generally good, the philosophy of this establishment is unacceptable. Anytime you ask for something slightly different from the menu, your request is rejected as if the restaurant knows what you want better than you do. (The only reason I have been a repeat customer over the years is because either a companion or group wants to go.)
For example, my wife recently wanted her ceasar salad cut up rather served in raw, uncut stalks. We were told this was impossible. Why? The server politely said that that was how the salad is "presented" and the kitchen will only serve it that way. We said we wanted it "presented" cut up and were still refused this request. As an experiment, we tried again for cut-up salad several weeks later. Same response; no.
My wife wanted no breading on her selection. Even though each dish is supposedly prepared to order, Gulfstream said, sorry; can't do it. Yikes. I have overheard other tables encounter similar "no" responses. Any slight request for alteration of a menu item is met with "no."
Another time, we asked that our fish selections be prepared well done. The server told us that the kitchen prefers to cook the fish medium rare. We insisted. The dishes came rare, nearly uncooked. We politely asked to have our fish dishes cooked. They came back burned.
I have news for Gulfstream, we know what we want to eat better than Gulstream does and when we pay the kind of prices charged at Gulfstream, they better give us exactly what we order or have a really good reason no to. No excuses. If it can't be done for some reason, fine. But refusing to cut up lettuce (or cook to order) is simply absurd. Business 101 says the customer is always right and the establishment should do everything possible to comply with special requests. Gulfstream gets an "F."
Best Salmon and great service – I love Gulfstream. They have the best salmon no matter how its prepared. They make a great Asian B-B-Q salmon that is delicious!! It is so tender and never dry. It is my favorite dish. the service is always excellent. The waiters are attentive without being annoying. It is easy to park since it is located in the mall. It gets very crowded however so its better to make reservations especially at lunch time.
Stay away!! – We waited forever in the cramped front of this restaurant for a table. Finally we got our table, a nice booth. I had three people wait on me-not sure who my waiter was, which is fine I get the teamwork thing-but none of them were friendly. One of my friends tried to change the vegetable of her fish and was told absolutely not-these aren't beautiful handcrafted highend dishes!! We could hear the chef screaming at the kitchen while trying to salvage what was left of our night and then my $34 plain grilled fish was over cooked- charred, stringy & dry -no wonder with that crazy lady screaming at the cooks. The weirdest night out I have ever had-I would laugh at it if it wasn't so expensive! :(
Best Fish in Town – We made a stop at his easily accessible Santa Monica Blvd. hot spot to try what a co-worker of mine says is the best seafood in West LA. We started with oysters (which are always fresh from the west coast) and the wonderful and simple smoked salmon. I find in this city many chefs will attempt to overproduce certain dishes in an attempt to impress. Gulfstream is a delightful departure from this fad. The quality and freshness of their seafood, organic rotisserie chicken, and prime cuts of both fillet and rib eye can be paired with an estate bottled and well priced wine. The spaghetti squash tossed in a light herb butter with shiitake mushrooms and golden raisins highlights a selection of side dishes ranging from fully loaded baked potatoes to wild rice salad to brussels sprouts. I had a mesquite grilled seabass topped with a crab lemon butter and my wife went for the jumbo lump crab cakes. Both winners! Do not--and I repeat--do not pass on the Scharfenberger hot fudge sundae. We were most impressed by the food and wine knowledge of our server who was unobtrusively delightful throughout our visit.
Seafood chain strikes a balance between swank decor, family-friendly vibes and unfussy fare. – The Scene
Sleek, red-leather booths, Asian-inspired lighting fixtures and gleaming teak paneling smack of mid-century chic. But don't let the decor fool you; this chain (an offshoot of Houston's) is laid-back and family-friendly, right down to the $6 kids' menu. Servers are eager to please, describing each dish with equal gusto.
With a clear focus on high-quality ingredients instead of fussy preparations, the menu is limited to a few straightforward seafood and meat dishes. Salads further the theme, especially a traditional Caesar zinging with anchovies and fresh Reggiano Parmesan. The cedar-plank roasted salmon is a flavorful entree. A great choice is the tuna burger, a well-seasoned patty of ground ahi seared to just-pink perfection that would satisfy even the most die-hard beef lover.
