Since we don't actually speak Chinese, we usually make the hand signal for a box at the front of the line, and then point at 3 items. Their big meatball-looking things are excellent, as is thier eggplant and some of thier green leafy things. There are about 20 items to choose from. This is accompanied by a bowl of rice and some sort of broth/soup with floating meat/tofu/leaves. Of course, it's probably all non-nutritious, but not bad for $4. They also have really good shaved ice, which I usually get with some black jello-looking stuff, red beans (sweet), peanuts, and condensed milk. Sounds wierd, yes, but pretty darn good nonetheless. The worst thing about this place, like most places in the area, is that you WILL get stared at if you appear non-Asian.
Pros: cheap, tasty, rapid food turnover
Cons: steam trays

This is a fairly bleak-looking restaurant, but don't let that fool you - Shau May has the best shaved ice and boba desserts in Los Angeles. Plus they're a lot less expensive - you can expect to pay $1-$2 for a large boba drink instead of the $3-5 that you'd pay elsewhere. Come here for dessert and cheap lunches (the food's pretty OK, but it's pre-cooked fare). If you're cruising down the 10 and pass by the Garfield exit, make sure to stop here!
