I love this place. We came here with some friends maybe two years ago or so and really liked it. Then we moved closer to where this is and have made it one of our regular spots. We just LOVE the food! Everything that we've had it so so good. And there seems to be two guys that are normally there that wait on us, and they are just as friendly as could be. There's no frills here, if that's what you are into. It's just really good food and a friendly staff.

Nothing to do with "Indian" food. I went there for lunch buffet, by myself.

When I arrived, I was asked three times if I want to eat in or pick up food. I said I want to eat in. "Only one? Only One? " they asked me several times. Then, they pointed to the tables--like: sit down where you want. Two other girls were brought to their table. I guess it is quite unusual for a single woman to sit down and eat there. A cultural difference? Maybe.

I have eaten in lots of Indian restaurants in Europe and the U.S. When I go to an Indian restaurant, I want Indian food. A lot of restaurants make the mistake to make their food palatable for the American taste buds. This is one of them.

I must say that the food had nothing to do with "Indian". The vegetables tasted sweetish. They did not use any of the spices that make Indian food so delicious. It was bland. Everything tasted the same.

On top of it, parts of the chicken meat was still pink inside--not healthy.

I am not sure how these positive ratings come about, but I thought I should point out that the emperor does not have any clothes here.

Great Food, Nice Atmosphere, Friendly staff. I been to this restaurant 100s of time, I love this place. I just read someone else's review. I totally not agree with you. I been to so many other indian restaurant's, but I like this one's the best. Food is excellent staff is friendly too.

THE ENTIRE STAFF IS OVERWEIGHT AND PRETTY UGLY!. When I saw that this restaurant had five stars and such low prices, I thought "Wow, this must be one of those super cool holes in the wall that you only stumble upon by accident or have to hear about through your friends," but I was wrong. The food was sub average at best (I could get the same Samosa and Pakoras at any higher end any indianmarket for much less money) and the service was absolutely abysmal. It was extremely frustrating gaining the attention of the servers, they were just hanging aroud the Bar. Some of am playing around the computer. though I frequently called for them making pleading eye gestures, waving, even calling out to them directly, all to no avail. Even as the servers passed by me and made eye contact, they kept moving on. We had to ask for our bill three times and only got it after complaining that we had asked so many times and had been waiting up to half an hour. I will definitely never come here again.

Best Indian Food in Los Angeles. The food is spectacular and unlike most Indian places, the service is pretty good and the atmosphere is inviting and cozy. I've been here at least 30 times and I've never had anything that was poorly prepared or less than expected.

The Bombay Chicken is perfectly seasoned and falls off the bone. The Korma is rich and zesty without the clumpy texture I've had at other Indian places. The Behl Puri is always fresh and crunchy. The chicken soup here is absolutely a must have every time I go. The lamb tikka masala is tender and juicy without the strong gamey taste that turns some off to lamb. I even like the coconut curry and I hate coconut.

Every time I'm in here I see a celebrity too. The last time I saw Ronny James Dio. I've seen Zach Braff, Kirsten Dunst, Don Henley, Emma Thompson, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller and others.

I've read some complaints about the service which I'd like to address. Indian's don't have the same demands we Americans do. You will have several people attending to your table, so don't be annoyed if the person that takes your order doesn't bring your check. Just signal for help and ANYONE will take care of you with a smile and genuine appreciation. This is how most restaurants handle service outside of the US. The staff at Great India Cafe is more attentive than ANY other Indian restaurant I've been to. I

In short, expect great food, good service, pleasant atmosphere. What more could you want? Don't listen to the reviews from the grammatically challenged and the pompous "authorities on indian cuisine for 35 years". There are a half dozen Indian places between my house and The Great Indian Cafe. While I've eaten at all of them, I usually drive past them all to eat here because it's the best place in town.

Our Favorit Indian Restaurant - Five Stars !. Our friends recommended this place to us and we loved it. This is now our favorit Indian restaurant. The Lam Boti Masala was flavorful and very delicious. We love the Somosa, the garlic nann and the pashwari naan. The service has been great and lunch menu is fairly reasonable. Highly recommended.

One of My Favorite Restaurants of All Time. I'm a regular at Great India Cafe and every time I go there, I find myself saying, "I forgot how good the food is here." This is one of my all time favorite restaurants and I everyone I bring there loves it too. It's not much a of a "scene". It's never too busy. And it's completely unpretentious. It's just great food. The staff is curteous. My only gripe would be that they don't have a full bar--only beer & wine. Still, if you like Indian food, you must try Great India Cafe!

Good Tofu Tikka Masala - Good Appetizers - Good Location/atmosphere - Lousy Service. Good food (the tikka masala is great here), especially the Tofu variety. Appetizers (crunchies) are great. Vindalu is subpar, watery and is not spicy at all if you want it spicy order it extra hot. Atmosphere is nice, but service is abyssmal...almost like they're being rude on purpose.

Would have higher rating if not for bad service

Neither of us will ever return to this place!. I had seen sevaral favorable reviews on Great India Cafe. I've been eating Indian food for over 35 years and consider myself an authority of sorts. A simple dinner (8-22-07) at Great India Cafe with a friend (who is also experienced in Indian cuisine) was extremely disappointing for us both.

Surprisingly, two of three dishes were practically inedible. The eggplant entre (about $9) was flavorless, overcooked and appeared to have been prepared earlier in the day. There was almost no perceivable spice in this unattractive dish. A "rice of the day" (overpriced at about $5 or $6) a small dish of pulao with a few peas and carrots had a distinct foul aftertaste - either burnt/old cooking oil or possibly a cleaning chemical.

The third dish, a lamb wrap served without the chutneys stated on the menu was not bad - but we both felt stongly that this restaurant was "cutting corners" with our meal. I would surely not recommend eating here to anyone and unfortunately I will not return as a paying customer to give them another try with my stomach.
