Cool Place to dance on a Saturday night – I just went to Ivar last night. In the Ivar line, me and my girlfriends ended up waiting for about 45 minutes. We got there about 10:15. Please note that the club entrance is located on Ivar in between Hollywood Blvd. and Selma ave. You can park on a small street called Cosmo street parallel to Ivar for $8 if you get there I'd say before 11:00. After that, it goes up to $10. Not bad for Hollywood on a Saturday night. Here's the game about the guest list. I put myself and my girlfriends on it by e-mailing the venue, and we told the lady with the clipboard that we were on it. She let us pass the cliched velvet rope to enter the club, but when we got inside, the chick taking money said it's $20 each. Apparently, the clipboard lady failed to tell us that we were supposed to get some sort of guest list pass. It's kind of shady practices, but I guess that's how all pretentious hollywood clubs are. In the end, they want to give you as little information as possible in order to get the most money out of you. By the time we got to the register, we were so irritated for having waited so long, we didn't feel like clearing things up with clipboard lady (who looked like she was trying to memorize the list for some reason - I guess making it look like she was actually busy) so we paid the $20 and got in. If you get a couple margaritas in you, you'll have a blast cuz the DJ was banging Hip Hop all night. Lots of black folks in this place which is a nice change from the valley. I don't frequent Hollywood much, for those once in a blue moon nights when I feel like going to Hollywood, I would definitely come back to this place. It was a lot of fun. I danced all night! I just know for next time, come at like 9:00 and make sure you get a guest list pass so you won't have to pay cover. For those of you who want to pay with credit cards at the bar, there is a $30 minimum and they only take cash for the cover charge. The go-go dancers were bangin ' too. You go girls.
Nice Venue – I like the club venue since the upgrade. About a thousand capacity. There are plenty of seating if you don't want to be part of the dance floor craziness and a tented patio for smoking. As a lady I find it great to find a relatively clean bathroom. I was only able to stop by for a quick hello last time I was there but it is a venue I'd come back to. Good music, mixed crowd and the line to get in was relatively quicker than most Hwood clubs in the area. Im excited to be going back this Friday 5/16 for my friend's birthday party and a singer performance so I can follow up with a more detailed review.
Asians and Guest List – Back in the day I used to attend various events at Ivar. Since its transformation into Facade, only the Asian crowd seems to have remained. I recommend getting on a promoter list if you are Asian, and all other races look elsewhere.
Housed in the old Ivar space, this lavish dance emporium features stylish design and lots of room to move. – In Short
The impresarios behind this cavernous club, also responsible for Tengu and Nacional, know that vastness can impede an intimate, A-list feel--and have compensated with design flair in a variety of spaces. On the main floor, elaborate "Tron"-like lighting schemes warm the exposed brick and industrial surfaces. The raised DJ boothand go-go dancers keep the promoter-specific crowds moving, as VIPs look down from a class-enclosed room. A mid-century modern lounge offers a respite from the action, and smokers head out to the tented patio.
HORRIBLE staff; horriible prices!!! – Wow! What a rip-off!!!! This place is awful! Treats you like trailer trash while charging you prices even the Hilton elite would balk at! Stay away or weep for your wasted night and empty pocketbok!! BTW: The staff are the rudest in the world!!
Ivar is still fun to goto. – Don't listen to all the hype. Ivar is still fun to go to.
